Audio: Back Pain and Back Strength
-
This very clearly explains my own experience. I first injured my back at 14 screwing around on some outdoor "fitness" equipment at a park. A week later I had a huge spasm while petting my dog and ended up flat on my back, which resulted in an introduction to an orthopedist. 22 years of yoga-like stretching and crunches have nothing on 8 months under the bar. Now back twinges (or whatever the underlying malfunction is) that would have put me out of commission are minor annoyances.
Now if only I could convince my parents to try it. I suspect there is a bit of "powdered butt" syndrome at work -- that is, after you've changed someone's diapers you don't want their opinion on sex or money. I'll keep sending them Grey Steel's (thanks Dr. Sullivan!) videos and hope it clicks.
