Fantastic!
I agree with all of your points Jordan. There is no doubt the mental benefits from this method are just as powerful and valuable as the physical.
And this story is also a prime example of the value the SS Gyms bring to the method. Having a place where people who have never lifted can do so under the eyes of competent coaches, with a community of fellow lifters surrounding and encouraging them, is extremely valuable.
Well done Jordan and Brent (and K!). Keep the great stories coming!
Rock on, Jordan! Love this!

Matt, nice work on the weight gain. You’re up 20-30lbs since when you first started SS? Did Rip give you a target weight? I laughed when he told me mine way back when, but as usual, he was right.
Thanks, Ray. Closer to 40-50lbs. I'm +/- 195 right now, and I think I started around 150, that's about where my weight remained throughout my enlistment and after I got out.
Rip has never put me on blast for my weight, but he's only seen me after the weight gain, and being sub-5'9", I think I'm less of a target than I would be at where I started. I always thought I'd be satisfied with being 160, but I don't even remember being at 160, I think I just blew right past it.

Ain't progress fun?A year ago, I had a goal of benching 225. Last night, I reached it! 3x5x225. I had several setbacks over the last year where something would happen as I got close to 225 (right shoulder pain, tricep muscle tear, elbow tendonitis). This time, everything felt right and strong. Before, I felt like I was reaching my limit as I got close to 225. Now, I feel like I have a strong base from which I can continue to increase bench strength. I think having a stronger squat, DL, and press contributes significantly to having a stronger bench. Jayne and Matt, many thanks! And also thanks to my fellow dinner crowd lifters - it is great to train with you guys!
Quite late with my introduction to this thread, but better late than never!
Hello everyone, my name is David Hernandez and I am currently interning here at SS - Dallas. I started in October and have had a blast every single day I've set foot into the gym!
I had the opportunity to go and show my support at the WFAC competition a few weeks ago, and I also got a few squat tips from Rip which were tremendously helpful (now, if only I could actually apply them to improve my squat). I'm very much looking forward to seeing the progress of each and every member as much as my own, and to hopefully begin coaching this year!
