Should your last warm up set be 25 lbs or 50 lbs lower than your working set(s).

Great question! Let's say you're just starting, and your press is 55 pounds...

I apologize for the bad question. I have always just done say 365 last warm up and then say 405. But I’ve seen where others have done say 385 last warm up and then say 405.

Why the suits at HBO we’re morons for cancelling deadwood

I have several topic and suggestions for the podcast and guests:

    - Talk about Starting Strength Development Program, invite some people currently in the program and talk about their experience, goals, expectations etc.

    - Starting Strength gyms in the US and abroad, what would it take to open a Starting Strength gym let's say in Canada or somewhere in Europe. You could invite one of Starting Strength lawyers to explain the process, talk to people interested I starting a gym or the ones already in the process of opening one in the US. You could also talk about the difference between a Starting Strength Gym and Affiliate gyms, talk to the owners etc.
    - Employment possibilities in SS gyms for people from abroad, apprenticeship programs for people doing the course or interested in starting.
    - Where do you see Starting Strength in the future, what is your vision and how do you see it expanding etc.
In general I would like to hear from all the happy clients, gym owners and entrepreneurs talk about their experience and how they see the future of the Starting Strength.

Rip, one of the appeals of getting strong is to become more physically capable. An advantage of that is being better prepared for self defense.

Since you have Nick D on staff, a self defense expert, and since you know quite a bit about weapons, I think it'd be interesting to have Nick come on the show to talk about self defense.

    Potential topics to cover:
    • The importance of strength in unarmed combat
    • Situational awareness tactics
    • Knives
    • Guns
    • General safety recommendations
    • The most useful martial arts to learn for self defense
    • Special considerations for women

Great suggestions above by Ray and Rajtar.

I'd personally like to hear from anyone currently undertaking the Coach Development program. Would be great to hear about the program from a students perspective.

I apologise for suggesting names as I haven't asked these people as per Bree's original post (but I'm sure that they wouldn't mind). I would like to hear from Ray about the Starting Strength Gyms project. I find everything about this topic fascinating. I'd also love to hear from someone like Jordan Stanton about how he has built his business from a garage coaching business, to now opening a full retail affiliate gym.

    Thank you.

    "History of Starting Strength"
    - the untold stories of a young Rip and Bill Starr outside the weight room: tearing up the local community. Yes, you know what I mean. I would appreciate some of those untold stories, there will be some funny stuff in there if Rip is willing to go there. The statutue of limitations has expired, so time to tell those stories!
    - how/ when Rip bought WFAC: how much back then? Were you certain that it would succeed? You mentioned the oil and gas industry was in the tank and you had limited options with your degree. Elaborate.
-What specific event or person ultimately drove you to sit down and start writing SS? Or was it kicking around in your head for a few years before you wrote a word?
    - I mean this in the best sense: how did Steph, with her Duke PhD, end up with SS/ WFAC? Her behind the scenes work in growing SS as a business is invaluable, so I am curious how this happened. Did Rip know her from local competitions? She also transitioned into a new career, the same question goes to Steph: what advice would you to someone changing careers?

    starting strength coach development program
Guest suggestion - Andy Kirkpatrick - elite big wall/winter climber/mountaineer, author, podcaster.

Andy Kirkpatrick – Climber, Writer & Monologist

Andy has mentioned Rip on his podcast a few times and has just done an episode specifically about Strength training: Psychovertical: EP 27 - Strength Training on Apple Podcasts

He's a funny guy and has a very similar perspective to Rip on many things. I think it would be interesting to discuss how he has applied SS to his sport etc.
