We signed our 20th franchise last night - Starting Strength Memphis. Sitting around the table at a sold out seminar with our friends from Starting Strength Austin, Dallas, Houston, and Cincinnati. Prospects from Orlando, Columbus, and a few others were hanging out too. It’s great to see this thing coming together.
Starting Strength Plano opened the Monday before last, Starting Strength Oklahoma City opened this past Monday, and Starting Strength Boston is on track to open this coming Monday, June 10th. We are on track to open ten or more gyms this year.
We've recently Signed Starting Strength Orlando and expect to sign Arlington, VA; Salt Lake City, UT; Jacksonville, FL; and Columbus, OH soon.
After that, we'll focus on finding the right owners for Atlanta, Phoenix, Charlotte, Philadelphia, Nashville, Kansas City, Raleigh, Indianapolis, Miami, Virginia Beach, Tampa, and Pittsburgh. Those cities are listed in order of most hits to startingstrength.com.
Fill in your details at ssgyms.com if you want to inquire about opening a gym in one of the cities, are financially qualified, and are a Starting Strength fan - both of the method and the culture.
Our buddy Pete Troupos has joined the franchise team to help us grow our Online Coaching business. If you don't live near a gym and want to train under the guidance of one of our gyms' coaches, check out our Online Coaching offering: Starting Strength Gyms Online Coaching
Update on our expansion strategy: Our first gyms were exclusively placed in top 10 markets (in terms of hits to startingstrength.com) to reduce the risk for everyone involved. That worked well and we expanded into the top 20. That worked well and we expanded into the top 50. Our top 10 gyms all have waiting lists and the owners are opening second or third locations. The smaller market gyms that have just opened are already selling out their most popular time-slots.
We're now going to open up our market selection criteria to focus primarily on a city's demographics instead of hits to the website. We'll consider any US city for this next phase of growth, provided that the business case makes sense. If there's a Whole Foods in the market, or a similar premium retailer that caters to our target audience, we're interested in taking a closer look. Here's a link to the website to inquire about a market.
