Without knowing one single solitary fact about either the injury or the surgery, I'm at a loss here. But it sounds like a revision procedure will be necessary.
Hey Rip,
Deeply appreciate any insights or advice you might have. In 2020 my brother had a nasty tear in his PCL. The doctors pressured him into surgery, his rehab has been a mess, and he basically lives day to day with excruciating pain for the better part of 3 years now. With the benefit of hindsight, I believe this surgery never should have happened in the first place.
Is there anything you can advise for him? For training? For rehab? For pain management? A person or specialist to see? It's such a struggle to see a loved one be in so much pain over a surgery that never should have even happened.
I've recently listened to so many of your podcasts where you talk about the failings of the medical industry. So I was hoping that if there was anyone who might be able to help, it might be you.
Thank you very much.
Best,
Cyrus

Hey thanks for the replies, Rip and Will. For more context, it was a complete PCL tear from a roller skating accident. Surgery for PCL repair.
Post op mri after a year showed the pcl repair had re-ruptured. He says there aren't a lot more technical details really.
He is scared to do a revision procedure because, he says, what if it goes wrong and he ends up in even *more* pain? Also, although he diligently did the rehab the first time around it apparently didn't work.
So he's basically at a complete loss on what to do right now and is (mentally) paralyzed over the whole thing. He's based in Los Angeles, if that's helpful.
Again, thank you so much both of you for any insights.
There are so many unknowns here, but, I have to suspect something else going on other than just a failure of a remote PCL reconstruction. The PCL isn’t absolutely necessary, and in fact, there are countless offensive linemen walking around with obliterated PCLs and they shook it off as just a knee tweak.
There is a piece of information missing, because a failed PCL recon should not inherently leave someone in a perpetual state of excruciating pain.
Thanks Will.
Would you have any suggestions on how to get after this? What type of specialist / doctor is the right person to see? Do you have any *specific* people or clinics / hospitals you would recommend (anywhere in the country...we have no issue traveling to get after this. we are los angeles based though).
And again, thank you sincerely.
