ldl-c is produced in the liver. statins are selective for liver production of ldl-c. statins have zero effect on other ldl production in the body (sex hormones etc)

This type of thing happens, for example, in every autoimmune disease. Don’t assume that every “natural” process in the body promotes longevity and health. Evolution designs us to be healthy enough through our reproductive years. Any problematic genes or patterns that kick in after that time will not have the benefit of natural selection to mitigate them.

I don’t know about LDL and heart disease, it’s confusing. But it’s wrong to assume that our bodies won’t do something counterproductive.

You have a very simplistic perspective of physiology. Chronic disease is almost always the result of this sort of unintended long term consequence to its response to an acute stress.

Correct. The body makes it to meet a need. If the need isnt there, the body doesn't make it. That LDL cholesterol? That the statins reduce? The body made it because it is needed somewhere.
