American politics is upside down and confusing.

Take the word "Liberal". Liberalism originated from the economist and philosopher Adam Smith. In short, it is based on the idea that every man should be given the same rights and freedom. The government guarantees those basic right by a justice system and then it is up to each and everyone to create their own future.

Liberalism was first and foremost an economical theory and this is often called Capitalism. However, you could expand the ideas into other areas of life and society. Liberalism would guarantee the same rights for someone who choses to live in a family, to live alone or, God forbid, to chose a different lifestyle.

The closest to a Liberal, in the original sense, in US, would be a Libertarian.

Anyways, get back to the God forbid part, in comes Conservatism. Take the economical part of Liberal (Capitalism) and combine it with stronger institutions, both government institution (justice, military) as well as social institutions such as marriage or certain ways to let elites stay elites. The idea was to slow down change and to remove radicalism and thus create stability that would make the economy thrive.

Around the same time, this guy Marx was looking at Capitalism from a different perspective. His idea was that everybody should own everything. The problem with this theory was that everybody turned out to be a few forming an elite and that everything was a much smaller pie than that Capitalism could create. Marxism or Socialism turned out to just not work.

In democratically countries in Europe, a middle road was established. It was called the Third Way or Social Democracy (which idiots in US now calls democratic socialism which is an oxymoron). The Third Way is completely accepting that Capitalism is the most efficient way to organize the economy. However, it is possible to take a slice of the pie and distribute it to the workers. As the economy growths, a certain percentage of this can be taxed and used for things such as schools, health care or even redistribution of wealth.

Almost every country in the world is somewhere in the Third Way scale between Capitalism and Socialism. The political fight is if you should move right or left on this scale.

In an International perspective, Joe Biden is to the right of the center of this scale. So was Obama, Bill Clinton, Jimmy Carter. Reagan was even further to the right and the Bushes followed in his tradition.

Where was Trump on the scale? He was all over the place. He seems to have no political conviction other than staying In power.

The tax reform and deregulation has nothing to do with Trump. He just signed the bills with his marker.

The policies that Trump tried to enact, such as the wall on the border to Mexico and the trade wars were just incompetent failures.

What the hell is the basis of his following?

I do not consider historic terrorist acts by muslims to be Islamic terrorism if they weren't religiously inspired and were commited in a struggle for independence, like those against the Dutch in Indonesia or against the Spanish in the Philippines.

Our Middle East policies are perhaps counter to our (yours and mine) interests, but as mentioned in my OP plenty of people are getting rich from it or benefiting otherwise. Which policy, past or present, do you find nonsensical and why?
Apparently you have never heard of, or refuse to acknowledge the raids of the Barbary pirates all over the Mediterranean and as far North as Ireland for slaves. Not to mention their seizure of US ships when Jefferson sent in Uncle Sam's Misguided Children to sort them out.

I don't see how it didn't age well. I still haven't changed my mind. I can't speak for Rip, but I doubt he has changed his either. Lockdowns are still authoritarian and unconstitutional. No amount of deaths will ever justify the violation of civil liberty we have witnessed this year.

You're not from here, are you? This is the standard blather from a European who has been "informed" by the the BBC and CNN. Joe Biden does not actually believe anything, if he's even capable of that anymore. He is nothing but a common criminal who has been in the government for 50 years, eating at the trough and enriching himself and his family/buddies on tax money and power. He is a political hookworm, and doesn't deserve your attribution of an ideology.

Will Biden sign similar bills? Did Obama? Either Bush?

We like him because of the lowest unemployment rates in US history across all demographics, the strongest economy in many decades, the real attempt to control illegal immigration (tens of thousands are pouring across now), the absence of new foreign wars, the return of US troops to their home country, trade agreements that favor us instead of them, a functioning power grid, low energy prices, and the balls to make fun of CNN and you. I liked him in power, and the fact that you didn't is confirmation that I'm right.

I guess the only way to really argue with these results, is that is not your desired modus operandi for this country.

"Undocumented individuals" not "illegal immigrants". Excuse me.
    "Noncitizen" not "aliens".

The level of gaslighting and mental torture they're inflicting on us is becoming hysterical.
Or just use Ted Cruz's term undocumented Democrats.

Apparently we can’t rotate blackouts here, so some customers have to go without power until ERCOT gives austin energy permission to draw more power.

I’ve heard that frozen wind turbines are to blame for this energy crisis. Anyone have any insight?
From what I'm reading, frozen wind turbines are certainly not helping, but the bigger issue is with thermal generation plants going offline due to the cold. Also gas wells freezing. I don't know if any of that is true, you all are a lot closer to the action than I am.

They've gotten even worse; I've heard the new term is now "citizen in progress."
Soon we'll be calling rapists "undocumented spouses," or "spouse in progress."

From a closer and better informed perspective, Biden isn’t an anything. He’s been in politics for half a century without getting a label other than sock puppet.

Obama and Clinton were so left, that they BOTH lost the house and senate. Clinton had the charisma to be a populist and convince people he was on their side when he wasn’t. Obama had a mildly amusing arsenal of leftist rhetoric but not particularly talented or original. In fact, he could not speak extemporaneously as evident that he could not speak without teleprompters. He also didn’t know the details of his namesake bill “Obama Care”, as he repeatedly described it incorrectly. Probably ignorant more than dishonest.

Jimmy Carter was so incompetent and so left that he paved the way for the Republican Revolution that really just ended Nov 2020.

Your international perspective is dubious by evidence.
