What actions are the effective ones? Does it even matter?
What would the numbers of obesity, diabetes, and heart disease have to be to justify forcing people to wear fitness trackers, monitor their calorie intake, arresting them for possessing a doughnut, or cigarettes? What about forcing closed business that sell junk food? Censoring anyone who presents counter arguments? De-platforming groups like fit at any size and labeling them miss information? Fining people for gaining weight? Taking custody of their children because they smoke or provide food that the government has decided is bad?
But if you called it something innocuous like “Interventions targeting disease reduction.” it doesn’t sound so bad.
Since when did acting supersede the need to know if the action would be effective? Since When did acting supersede the need to consider any consequences? Since when did we adopt the stance that the people who make these decisions are infallible and must never be questioned? When did we adopt this mentality that the ends justify the means and in the name of the greater good we will take any action just to be seen as taking action? When did we lose our morality?
