Of course these morons have no authority to tell us to close, neither legal or moral. This country is supposed to run by the Rule of Law, not by the Rule of Mayor, or County Judge, or Governor. None of these assholes is enforcing laws -- they are issuing orders which have no basis in law, and which will not hold up in court. Unless they dissolve the courts too. Look for Michigan to try this first. Furthermore, every mayor, county official, and governor who issued these bullshit orders must be forced to resign; un-reelected isn't good enough. Up against the wall would actually be better -- sends a better message.
Monday is shaping up to be a big news day.
I’m not a small business owner so I don’t know what sort of funds owners have set aside to fight things legally. I suspect that people dying to open back up don’t have funds set aside. So, barring a quid pro quo lawyer, municipalities will just keep levying charges that are bullshit. If you can’t afford to fight it in court, you lose.
That’s what they do to the general public who can’t pay anyway. They levy more fines and when they can’t pay the fine, they throw them in jail. Then they bring you in front of a judge and the judge says, “Where’s my money?” The defendant says he can’t pay because he’s been in jail for not being able to pay. So the judge gives him 30 more days. I had an acquaintance who spent 8 months in jail in Mississippi because of this. The initial crime? Expired tags.
I suspect a similar schtick to generate revenue by many municipalities.
It was based on fear. People were scared shitless of the virus that China didn't want to talk about and was apparently going apeshit over. That's why it worried me back in December of January when I was following it. But when it came here and we started to get some better information and that time has passed, well, I find myself not really concerned. And I still think the harsh cough I got toward the end of last year may have in fact been this bug. My brother's getting results from an antibody test soon, I don't know if he even caught the thing me and my parents had but it should be interesting to see.
And the trend in NYC continues: COVID-19: Data - NYC Health
The 37K is for covid deaths where the patient did not also have pneumonia. Covid+pneumonia deaths add another 16K (a few columns over). One of the ways covid kills you is by opening you up to pneumonia. I think that covid+pneumonia deaths are fair to call covid deaths. Now if you had covid+cerebral hemorrage or something else, maybe not.
In any case, there is no "cutting nearly in half" being done by CDC. You may disagree with their counting methods, but the tally hasn't changed dramatically. As we have been over many times, death and disease case reporting is a messy process, and each local health department has their own schedule, so there is a lag and some revision necessary by CDC. At some point down the road, you can be sure many people will pore over the data to tighten up criteria for a "covid death" and the numbers will shift a bit. In the mean time, they're working with the data they have.
From that table, COVID + COVID and pneumonia amount to 7.488% of Deaths from All Causes. It takes an interesting assessment of the importance of living a normal life the way you choose to live it weighed against a life spent in hiding to avoid a 7.5% chance that if you die it won't be from COVID-19. But the virus is a moot point now. We're more concerned with the fate of society.
It’s even worse over here in Blighty. The useful idiots are clapping on their prison doorsteps for socialism every Thursday night at 8pm prompt. Ironically it was the failure of the socialised healthcare system which lead to their incarceration because it required “saving”. Now we have all kinds of cockroaches coming out of the woodwork telling us that we need a brave new world of full on socialism. I can only hope you lot show some back bone, or we are fucked.
