Thanks, Kitsuma. This is a damned important lecture. Many gems inside. The point he makes about Oxford at 35:00 is excellent.

You are correct in this. I appreciate you saying so.
I'm not suggesting it is a lie. I also think it's possible to be unbiased about someone while also not ignoring obvious and enduring aspects of their character. And you have a definition of the word "humility" very different from any I've heard before.
You sure?

Mueller, the man is The President of the United States. When he gets on Twitter and rants and raves, he's being un-"Presidential." When he does something symbolic and "Presidential," it's a stunt. Fine. Vote for Joe.

I'm not talking about self-effacement.
Despite his bombast, I do not see Trump as self-righteous.

I never called it a stunt. Nor did I remark on his being or not being "Presidential." I was merely making the comment that this is not a man capable of intentional virtue or humility. It is not, from a character structure standpoint, within him. He may inspire or serve as a guide, as he does for VNV, but in being moved in that way, you are reacting to the behavior of an empty vessel.
This is a good point. I spoke too quickly by saying that power abuse by police is a huge problem. You're right in identifying that it's the potential for abuse that gets people upset and causes issues.
For my part, I try to stay neutral towards the police as much as possible. I've been pulled over several times and never gotten a ticket and almost every encounter I've had with LEOs has been positive.
However, on one occasion I did have an officer get in my face and search my car because he thought I was transporting weed. I have no idea why this happened, because I keep my car and person very clean, I'm white, and I was driving through the middle of nowhere in the upper peninsula of Michigan. There's a special kind of anxiety when a cop is pawing through the underwear of your suitcase trying to nail you for hiding a dimebag.
I get that most officers are not like this guy was, but it did affect my attitude toward the police in way that probably won't ever change. I always have to remind myself that there is the potential that an officer can take advantage of me and that I have no real recourse besides ponying up the money for a lawyer.
I forget if it was in one of his books or just his private letters, but Lewis made some predictions about the outcome of public education that were also very prescient given the current state of schools in the West.
