Thanks, Kitsuma. This is a damned important lecture. Many gems inside. The point he makes about Oxford at 35:00 is excellent.

As children of the 60s, we were indoctrinated with some of the teachings of MLK. One of those teachings embraced by many Americans was "colorblindness". It was a goal.
The other perspective at the time was that of James H Cone. Cone & MLK disagreed on key things, and Cone lost the battle at the time.

Today, the young people are indoctrinated with James H Cone's perspective. And THIS is has created a gap between our generations. How do we bridge this gap in order to move forward?

For your consideration, I present the great Dr Voddie Baucham about "Ethnic Gnosticism". At 50 minutes, it is an investment. In the least, watch the first 5 minutes, and then skip to 27 minutes and listen as long as you get something from it.

Sharp stuff. Gnosticism, identity politics, providence. Providence in a totally unlikely and forbidding path. (I've thought of the latter before as the "asymmetry of life".)

I think my interpretation is accurate. However, I’m prepared for “it” to all be a lie. We’ll see.
I'm not suggesting it is a lie. I also think it's possible to be unbiased about someone while also not ignoring obvious and enduring aspects of their character. And you have a definition of the word "humility" very different from any I've heard before.

Mueller, the man is The President of the United States. When he gets on Twitter and rants and raves, he's being un-"Presidential." When he does something symbolic and "Presidential," it's a stunt. Fine. Vote for Joe.

    I'm not talking about self-effacement.

Despite his bombast, I do not see Trump as self-righteous.

I never called it a stunt. Nor did I remark on his being or not being "Presidential." I was merely making the comment that this is not a man capable of intentional virtue or humility. It is not, from a character structure standpoint, within him. He may inspire or serve as a guide, as he does for VNV, but in being moved in that way, you are reacting to the behavior of an empty vessel.

I wouldn't tolerate people acting that way towards my clientele.

I think the latter I think is generally overstated (huge?) and done so due to no sense of proportion. Sure there are cases of abuse of power and some serious fuck ups we all know about and I have met, both socially and thanks to the blue lights being in my rearview, cops who seem to be compensating for small dicks, but have never experienced or even known someone personally who has experienced anything more than what could be said to be unnecessary heavy handedness.

I think a lot of cop hatred is due to the potential for abuse (which is why I would like to see big changes in the job), just like a lot of accusations of racism are based on the possibility of it rather than the demonstration of it (just look at this case: no reason to see color at all, but here we are), but I think both are a lot rarer than people "intuit" them to be.
This is a good point. I spoke too quickly by saying that power abuse by police is a huge problem. You're right in identifying that it's the potential for abuse that gets people upset and causes issues.

For my part, I try to stay neutral towards the police as much as possible. I've been pulled over several times and never gotten a ticket and almost every encounter I've had with LEOs has been positive.

However, on one occasion I did have an officer get in my face and search my car because he thought I was transporting weed. I have no idea why this happened, because I keep my car and person very clean, I'm white, and I was driving through the middle of nowhere in the upper peninsula of Michigan. There's a special kind of anxiety when a cop is pawing through the underwear of your suitcase trying to nail you for hiding a dimebag.

I get that most officers are not like this guy was, but it did affect my attitude toward the police in way that probably won't ever change. I always have to remind myself that there is the potential that an officer can take advantage of me and that I have no real recourse besides ponying up the money for a lawyer.

Both in the UK as our Cousins across the Pond tell us, and in the Good Old U S of A. I found that aspect of the trilogy ridiculous and off putting when I first read them in the 70's too, thinking no way could this happen. But Lewis was prophetic in his vision of things to come.
I forget if it was in one of his books or just his private letters, but Lewis made some predictions about the outcome of public education that were also very prescient given the current state of schools in the West.

Much the same could be said of his predecessor. Except for Obama's virulent antipathy for police. THAT particular vessel was full to the brimming and set the stage for what we see now.

    Thanks Obama.
