As I said before, I have realized with age that removing the land-ownership requirement for voting may have been a grave mistake.

Reflects the population how? In terms of catering to the innate desire for free, seemingly high quality things? Or the actual demographics?
Sociopaths make up about 3-5 percent of the population; however, even casually, the government at all levels reflects a much higher value. This seems to be an inherent structural feature of the modern democratic state. The cult of personality as it were.
But, it’s always “we need better people.” This becomes, “we need the right people.” Ultimately ending up as “we need our people.”
I don’t think any more “people” is the answer.
Fair response, David- thank you for taking the time to organize your thoughts and reply. On the mandatory draft issue, I'm just curious how the few countries out there that already do this make it work - I know for example that Russia sticks most of its draftees into border stations. Wow; what a wet dream! We could institute mandatory two-year military service, to be served along our great, expansive, beautiful border!
But I can't see how I'm mis-representing or mis-understanding you; perhaps you just don't like the logical conclusions that must be drawn from your assessment of America's crises?
You are presenting a strawman argument that "pussies" are over-reacting to what's going on and then giving up, by....what? Exaggerating how bad things are right now? What is it that the "defeatist, histrionic pussies" are saying that is an over-reaction to you?
IMHO, Anything short of tying the noose around our leaders' necks, as Mark fantasized about pages ago, is not over-reaction, given what is happening now and has been carried out through slow-drip progressive policies over the past 30+ years.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
But I'm sick of arguing with you over the appropriate level of disgust and action warranted in our country right now.
Obama in eight years got [....] (fill in your own preferred list of his successes);
While Trump has only gotten [...],
and your preferred course of action is, what? (Cuz it SOUNDS like polite, status quo-approved, same-old, same-old RINO action is what you think is appropriate)
So many other countries are "allowed" to have nationalist laws, protect their native cultures, have borders, limit immigration, etc....because why? Are they smarter than us? Are their people more cunning and more in control of their leaders? What are the correlative and causal factors that allow White Europeans to institute conservative, nationalist laws and societies?
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sorry, but the debate I'm willing to have with you further isn't whether things are as bad as the "pussies" make it seem - there are 500+ pages here of pussies documenting a Covid liberty-crisis that you think isn't really that bad a deal; not as close to collapse as it feels (if that's not what you think, you've done a poor job of expressing yourself).
The debate is over which course of action will be MOST EFFECTIVE (not the most comfortable) going forward:
the RINO status quo of voting, using our institutions as intended (Constitutionally), as in, "Trump can't do that! He's not a dictator!!," giving tax breaks every few years, "p0wning" the Libs on the few media channels still available to us, etc.;
or, something else? (No one's defined this "something else" yet, but with you and I stuck debating whether action is even warranted, whether the situation is as catastrophic as it seems, we can't even get this far)
Or am I prsenting a false dichotomy? What are the other options out there?
The last effort to pretend to care about the budget was during the Clinton administration. It was part of the republican contract with America.
Clinton had lost both houses of Congress 2yrs in and was forced right. He capitulated (including welfare reform) on budget because he valued his legacy over his integrity. Ultimately Gingrich was assassinated by the media. So, so much for that.
No efforts to be fiscally responsible since then as far as I can tell.

And this certainly wasn't true before COVID-19 decimated the planet.Quote:
Another paper published last month in The Lancet Psychiatry looked at 153 patients in the UK and found even those younger than 60 could have psychosis, depression or strokes.
Researchers interested in honest work, rather than pivoting the quickest, are fed up as well.
This “lingering problems” article in Science Magazine has lots of scary hyperlinks, but even more irony:Quote:
Entire fields of research are being lured away from their primary area of expertise to the pandemic response. Scientists working in areas that have nothing to do with COVID-19 are expending a tremendous amount of energy pivoting their work to the response.
...
In my field, tuberculosis (TB) research, many researchers have already pivoted to COVID-19. This is a loss, since TB is the leading infectious killer and is getting even worse because of the pandemic.
And, to be fair, some deeply-buried context:Quote:
Life for the 38-year-old is a pale shadow of what it was before 17 March, the day she first experienced symptoms of the novel coronavirus...“I used to go to the gym three times a week,” Akrami says. Now, “My physical activity is bed to couch, maybe couch to kitchen.”

Infections with other pathogens are associated with lasting impacts ranging from heart problems to chronic fatigue. “Medicine has been used to dealing with this problem” of acute viral illness followed by ongoing symptoms, says Michael Zandi, a neurologist at UCL. Even common illnesses such as pneumonia can mean a monthslong recovery.

I didn't even know a bunch of these since our media's existence isn't to inform us.
And no I don't agree with all of them.
I keep hearing this; This sentiment is everywhere, not just on this board.
The biggest mistake I see is people making is thinking they need to go from 0 to 60 immediately. Go from 0 to 10. Then 10 to 20...
Just take a small step in the right direction. You as an individual are best able to determine what step you should take.
We certainly wouldn't want to see any more of these around:
