I’ve been entertained at how this thread has pivoted in the last few pages, but I’ve got no unique knowledge of socialist theory and the like.
But I do have significant experience working with viruses in laboratory settings. It took me forever to understand why scientists were not speaking up about the ineffectiveness of masks. In discussing with some former colleagues, I came to the realization that they all knew and laughed at the idea but wouldn’t dream of speaking up. And I don’t blame them. The risk is to high.
It would be entertaining to see someone go around vaping (or smoking) and blowing it out their mask in public places that forbid vaping. That way when they get accosted they can respond that the mask is surely filtering out all the bad things in the vapor along with the coronavirus, no?
Yeah, its great fun here in Melbourne at the moment.
My wife can work from home (which is good considering schools have been closed for all but two weeks since easter and we have 4 children) and I'm an essential worker (private industry, not public service) so at least we don't have to worry about going broke.
I will likely be issued papers to allow me to travel (but only to work) because that's what the government decrees is best for me.
Whether these muzzles are ineffective or not isn't the point. The people shouldn't be wearing them at all. Covid-19 is no worse than influenza, we all know that now; all the figures are in. You've no more chance dying from C19 than Influenza A. But, too many people who should (and perhaps do) know better are still behaving like it's the Black Death of 1343! Obviously the deliberate over-inflating of deaths directly attributed to C19 hasn't helped, and neither has mass media scare-mongering. But how many of us know someone who has died directly from contracting C19?
A 'case' - if someone has the virus in their body or not - is totally irrelevant. Millions upon millions of people carry influenza around every year. No one bats an eyelid.
And, if they really wish to 'eradicate' this Coronavirus, why not allow 'herd immunity' to run it's course? All the lockdown does is increase the chances of a 'second wave' by preventing millions of people from developing immunity by contracting the virus. But, now that the World Economic Forum has announced a 'great opportunity', for their neo-Marxist 'Great Reset' programme*, the charade must continue.

Coronavirus: Melbourne police 'assaulted and baited' over lockdown rules - BBC News
This sounds like the Communist East German Stasi.Quote:
"Chief Commissioner Shane Mr Patton said the attack on the policewoman "highlights the type of challenges that we're experiencing", adding people were "baiting" police at checkpoints and refusing to disclose basic information.
"On at least four occasions in the last week, we've had to smash the windows of cars and pull people out to provide details," he said."
How many C19 deaths has Australia had since this fiasco began?
226! Out of a total national population of 25.6million!
By way of comparison, how many Australians died of influenza recently:
2019: 900
2017: 1,100

In Germany, the means of production was only nominally in private hands. The owner was required to produce, sell and buy whatever the state required. Huge deficit spending is not ‘centrist’. It is the theft of private property. This is why we don’t have full capitalism in the West-we have partial socialism. My point here, is that fascist are not capitalists they are socialists. Many of the socialist in Germany readily embraced the National Socialists because, bar some nominal differences, it pretty much fitted their collectivist goals.
The accusation that Rip and others are ‘right wing’ in the because they are capitalists is plain wrong. Right and Left are flip sides of the same coin, separated nominally by the way in which the stare acquires private property. The left takes it outright, the right leaves it with the owner, but the owner is effectively a state employee. What the Nazis realised is that businesses owners made the best slaves, where as the Communists removed the owners and substituted those unfamiliar and ill equipped to run those businesses efficiently.
Today we have a new breed of economic fascism -cronyism-the revolving door between big business and the state. It’s impossible to know exactly which one is making policy. Meanwhile we have socialist welfare systems for everyone else. We have big deficit spending Governments-many now Trillions deep in debt. None of that is even close to capitalism.
You seem literate enough. If you can hardly find the words to express your thoughts, maybe you should reconsider your ideas.
A constitutional republic is not a democracy. Greek Idiots - Democracy and Voting - Myth vs Fact
There are some good arguments for change, however...
It is for good reason Americans conflate democracy with socialism and socialism with communism.
As Marx and Lenin said:
"Democracy is the road to Socialism"
“The goal of Socialism is Communism.”
We do currently operate under a system of clown world socialism in the United States. We have not reached full democracy yet, but we are very near to it. The system has allowed crony capitalism to flourish.
Capitalism is not a form of governance; It is just what happens when individuals are allowed to trade and interact freely according to their own will and desire.
Communism attempted to destroy Chinese heritage, culture and tradition during the cultural revolution. National socialism is the most appropriate description for the current iteration of government in China. National Socialism does protect the remnants of Chinese culture, tradition and society, but it comes at a heavy price.
How about a fourth option?
The “Holland’s Top Scientists” statement is not about the effectiveness of masks per se, it is about the practicality and use of a universal mask mandate. If you read the article, in Holland they still do mandate masks on public transit where people crowd together, and one of the “top Holland scientists” says “we have seen this approach works.”
Nobody says that masks are 100% effective for anything. But, properly used, they do reduce spread of droplets, and are a part of effective infection control. The other parts are physical distance, minimizing contact, and hand hygiene. Masks may be the smallest contributor here, but they are literally better than nothing, and the fact that they have become a proxy battle in the Culture Wars(tm) doesn’t change that.
