Could you elaborate on this a bit, because it seems rather counterintuitive.

I doubt you know what a country mile is, but at what point do you believe this urge for fairness was baked into our forebearers DNA? Lemurs, perhaps? Because competition for resources appears to have been occurring at the cellular level since forever. Accepting your premise, competition is inherently unfair because winners and losers instead of sharing the goal. There's nothing living on this planet that supports your fondly held belief.

The desire for "fairness" for one's self? Sure, that's instinctively there. But that's a function of competitiveness. "That other guy is doing better than me, I should be doing as well as him. It is NOT so instinctive for the reverse to spring up". No one's instincts lead them to "that guy is doing worse than me, he should be doing as well as me". It's only when we are doing especially well and don't have to worry about acting on an instinctive level that people can be more generous.

Keeping the George Floyd situation in mind, doubtless many of you have seen this already. The police situation in the Phoenix area is interesting, and taken together with the recent Mesa AZ execution by a cop of an unarmed man groveling on the floor pleading for his life, one wonders which is the more dangerous situation, a BLM/Antifa riot where they have torched your house or a law enforcement contact in AZ. Note that the cop who performs this execution also shoots the compliant man in the back -- the Arizona Way, since anything else is just not safe for the officer.

All I'm reading in that title is "Majority of voters should be ineligible to vote".

I'm thinking that the old "property owners" standard for the franchise might be the way to go.

Rip, I suspect you're being at least a little bit tongue in cheek here, but I've seen this idea floated many times on this thread and feel compelled to speak up. You're not the only one I'm speaking to here. Full disclosure, I'm up here in the socialist paradise of Canada, so what you guys do with your franchise doesn't affect me one single bit, but still.

I don't own property. I rent in the biggest city in Canada, where it's damn near impossible to buy a house for less than a million. Sure, I could buy a shoe box condo for less than that, but I don't want to live in one, so my partner and I have decided that we get a better bang for our buck by renting.

While I may live in the largest city in our socialist paradise, I did not choose to live in Toronto so I could parasitically tap into all the free shit being showered upon us by our government overlords. I was born here, and so was my partner. Our families are here, our friends are here, and our jobs are here. Our whole lives are here and always have been.

I've been employed in some capacity since I was about 16. I've never applied for Employment Insurance, even though I've been paying into for 17 years. Neither has she, despite working in musical theatre for years. Yikes! About the only publicly funded service I make use of on any kind of regular basis is public transit, and I still pay my fare every time I get on, because despite some government funding it still isn't free. I use it to get to my job, where I teach at a special education school. Don't worry, it's a private school. Hell, I don't even use our socialist health care system as much as I should! I've been lucky enough to avoid any major medical issues thus far, so I've only ever used it for routine checkups, and not even as regularly as I should.

There are millions more just like me in Toronto, so I can assure you there are millions more like me in large American cities everywhere. We're not all socialist parasites, and suggesting that we don't deserve to vote because we don't own property is some straight up medieval bullshit. Again, I suspect there are others in this thread that are far more serious about the notion than you are, it was just your post that prompted me to speak up against it.
