Africa smashed the narrative the most, I think. Based on the projected panic, there should have been hundreds of thousands of deaths there by late May. The problem is, nobody ever looks at Africa. My guess is, African governments and their associated medical establishment have little incentive to cook the numbers, so you don’t get everything coded as a COVID death. Same goes for India.

Thanks for replying Rip, and elaborating more from before. If you'd care to indulge a follow up, is there an era of let's just say American history you'd consider the closest? Perhaps without straying too far from the 20th century? Or would you say it's just been a slow creep further and further away from that ideal for America's entire history?
Still interested in hearing from others too.
Well, the sunshine, too, probably as much if more than the heat.
I asked a while back about the Southern Hemisphere, as they’ve been in Winter and are going into Spring, i.e., low sun exposure/low immunity season. You would think they’d have been severely fucked. Hasn’t there been huge variations in South America while there’s almost nothing heard about Africa.
There are a lot of curious questions floating out there looking at countries. One big question is why Iran got hit hard, but Iraq didn’t.
You also seem to have a much lower death rate in countries with widespread tuberculosis BCG vaccination programs. Eastern Europe has a cumulative 90 something percent vaccination rate for BCG, and much lower death rates than Western Europe. Same goes for India too. But you know, it's not conclusive, we need more research money.
I think history always marches towards more government. Our history has been no exception, although it was founded in more liberty than the world had ever seen. The average human is generally stupid and lazy, like Haghstull, eager to obey and happy to promote obedience, with notable exceptional individuals that actually advance the human condition. But the trend will always be towards the average, with occasional disruptive events that reset the timer.
The most horrifying examples of government mayhem and slaughter were predicated on a populace willing to obey, who found the idea of conflict abhorrent, and who crave the approval of those they regarded as their betters. There will always be sociopaths to lead these people, and there will always be willing accomplices to point the weapons. The current iteration: Wear The Mask, or our agents will fine you. Seems innocuous enough, I know. But the process never stops there.
NJ’s governor continues the lockdown because:
and his risible slogan is “data determines dates”. Of course, political objectives determine data: as long is testing is expansive, he can keep whatever he wants closed. He said the closely-watched rate of transmission remains at 1.06, the same number reported Wednesday.

New Jersey is using number of cases confirmed by PCR test, which is the input data most commonly used by a number of different Rt models.
What do you think Mayor Wilhelm is using for data? Or a brain? Does he have post-mayor job plans, or does he think NYers will reelect him if he starves them all?
