Wouldnt it be great if Trump ordered HCQ be made available over the counter to those who wish to take it as a prophylaxis? Trump to reveal coronavirus 'breakthrough' therapeutic, WH press secretary says

In other news, proof coming there are "men behind the curtain" operating the antifa puppets?

Big City People often demonstrate a smugness about their own intelligence, experience, tastes, and capabilities that ends up being incongruent with reality. This is common in NYC, LA, Seattle especially, and increasingly Austin. I haven't been in Portland or SF enough to know. I certainly don't know about Toronto, because I've only been there 4 times. These people have destroyed NYC with this behavior translated into votes. The wrong people were placed in charge because they fed the smugness, and now that it's time for adults to make decisions, none are either available or interested. So let them enjoy their creation. Not one dime of federal tax money should be used to rebuild any of these places.

"The poor" got thrown in with The Smug. Why? Poor people are poor for many reasons, and my opinion of them depends on the reason, as it should.
That's understandable, but I'd counter that many rural/smaller city/town dwellers in this thread have been demonstrating a similar smugness towards us city dwellers. For example, that we don't deserve to vote because, for many reasons, we've chosen to live where property is too expensive for many. I mean, my ex-girlfriend's family used to make fun me because I didn't know how to get the Y bone out of a pike fillet and had never fired a gun. They stopped when I turned out to be pretty good at skeet shooting haha That was all in good fun, but they definitely had lower opinions of us city folk. Anyways, I've never been to any of those American cities, so maybe the smugness is worse, or maybe Torontonians are just as bad and I don't notice because I'm not on the receiving end of it. However, I have been on the receiving end of the reverse, so this is all just to say that knife cuts both ways some times.

Where I think it gets toxic is when those on either side of the rural/urban divide almost seem to find glee in the misfortunes of the other. I know some people who have had very little compassion for the plight of rural communities that are struggling because major local employers have shut down or moved overseas leaving poverty and drug epidemics in their wake. Just like some in this thread are sitting back and cackling while cities burn like they're the fucking Joker or something. Urban or rural, I don't think rooting for human suffering is particularly cool.

I agree that the poor are poor for many reasons, and your opinion should depend on the reason. Many just seem to lump them all together though. Hard to do the ole pull yourself up by your boot straps when you were born into a poor family and suffer from mental illness, or are a kid and have literally no control over your own circumstances. I feel cases like that tend to get forgotten when referring to "parasites," although I don't deny those exist too, and not just in cities thank you very much!

Another example I'm familiar with are people that would very much be considered poor, but it's because they're trying to break into industries that just don't pay shit unless you make it big. I'm close with many musicians, actors, and artists who work part time gigs on the side while they pursue their passion, which just doesn't pay very well. Like me, they don't use any publicly funded services besides public transit and health care, but we all get that up here. They're certainly not on food stamps and welfare though. They just have to work really hard without much payoff. Would they meet the standard of "net contributor?" I honestly don't know. However, I've also known people in those same fields that don't have to work on the side because they come from wealthy families and spend all their free time at the beach and partying.

That's why I was pushing back against some of the historical precedents for voting requirement Yngvi presented, because of those two groups of aspiring artists, I know which group I'd rather have voting.

Blend left and right and you get the mixed economy. This moderation, the denial of the principles and the reliance on pragmatism has brought us here. Teaching your children that they should live for other people; that capitalism is an evil, but a necessary one to be controlled by regulation; that reason is hopeless and that pragmatism, committees, polls and votes by majority are the only way to decide what to do, and compromise above all is key. All this results in children like Greta Thunberg who stand on stage crying and shouting that “you have betrayed us”. They didn’t get these ideas from nowhere, they didn’t float into their heads from the ether. The adults have taught them to embrace post-modernism and socialism as practical and moral virtues. Now they want to tear everything down and start again. They have the moral high ground. The right does not object, it mostly agrees with their moral values, it just rejects their implementation.

There's no such thing as a problem free system of government, or absence of same. What are the obvious problems that leap out at you?

Being a Brit, you may not understand that we have 3 branches of government here. He seems to have omitted the other two from the governing process. Not enough detail for more analysis.

Are you talking about actual mental illness or as the media now does, to describe a abuser of drugs that's having a bad trip?

And other then the mental illness, this describe my early life quite well “born into a poor family and suffer from mental illness, or are a kid and have literally no control over your own circumstances” I find that most people own the decisions and acts that brought them to where they are today.

We have HCQ in our house and my wife takes it from time to time because of her Lupus. I wonder what is the rate of Covid infection among people who take it for Lupus?

Our family was born and raised in N CO and my little sister moved to Brooklyn for about 10 years when we were all in our mid 20's. She once made a statement about us "small town folk". She has since been removed from her high horse and I get to jab her a bit from time to time. It brings me a bit of joy.

She is still in FB contact with some of her NY friends and knows all to well the glass tower that they reside in. She is now the small town folk...

The FDA fast-tracked blood donor treatment, following the Mayo Clinic’s recent positive finding.
    Importantly, a gradient of
mortality was seen in relation to IgG antibody levels in the transfused plasma. For patients who received high IgG plasma (>18.45 S/Co), seven-day mortality was 8.9% (6.8%, 11.7%); for recipients of medium IgG plasma (4.62 to 18.45 S/Co) mortality was 11.6% (10.3%, 13.1%); and for recipients of low IgG plasma (<4.62 S/Co) mortality was 13.7% (11.1%, 16.8%) (p=0.048).
Very Rigorous and Definitely Apolitical doctors - including Francis Collins of NIH, Fauci, and his deputy H. Clifford Lane - tried to derail it. Because the study is not an RCT, so Trump’s FDA is obviously sloppy. Just like those CIs, right?

Actually, the CIs are pessimistic. Their thresholding considered 18.46 S/Co “high” and 18.44 “low”, despite being equivalent in reality. It’s no surprise the effect sizes were blurred. Furthermore, doses were quasirandomly administered - doctors didn’t know if they were dosing high or low.
Physicians could choose the timing of convalescent plasma, the number of units administered, any repeat therapies and whether ICU or mechanically ventilated patients were included. Furthermore, the degree of immune activity within the units of convalescent plasma (i.e. specific IgG levels) was not known.
(It’s a shame they didn’t shuffle the plasma.) Yes, this study is preliminary, but it’s a positive result which meets a higher standard than a typical retrospective study.

I suppose the NIH docs would prefer to wait for their $4.3M RCT in NY, which hopes to have results in early 2021 - just in time for restaurants to reopen.
