If you had the opportunity to communicate a message to the governor, what would you say?
Now, remember he does not have a background in biological sciences, so he feels he must rely on his health department officials and the CDC for guidance. He also has to deal with a highly fearful public. In addition, he has to consider the future political position of his party in a state that is attracting swarms of NYers and Californians intent on turning the state blue; If he does not follow the advice of the CDC and the protocols put in place during the Obama administration, his party is at extremely high risk. He has already convened a meeting with the top business leaders, which has produced an agreed upon plan of action for the state on the business front. He recently had to overrule his county health department bureaucrats who tried to seize the authority to bring criminal charges against individuals involved in gatherings of more than 10 people.
What is the answer from that perspective?
This source isn't the city council meeting that comes up in a search of the local papers, is it?
Yes, because the West is shut down for business, thanks to the virus. I wonder just how much the Central Committee is panicking right now, they are facing the prospect of low digit or even negative growth, and the complete disintegration of their social experiment, all because of a simple set of proteins and the Western countries adopting quarantine policies they copied from the Party! It's so brilliant in the irony, there is no chance it's not an act of Allah almighty, praised be his name.
Kirkham provided the source in his last post.
I would encourage everyone to practice the best hygiene possible, to stay at home if sick, 6-foot radius, and for susceptible people to stay away from everybody else if they are concerned for their safety above all else (some are not -- some value the things in life more than life itself). I would encourage the governor to keep soldiers and police out of our business, and to let us decide how we handle this. This will be called "irresponsible" by the Fascists (finally, a chance to use the word correctly) currently in charge. But it's already too late for this.
You and I are focused on different issues: you on the disease, I on the reaction to the disease. You have not addressed the impending depression, and I'm not going to address your bullshit-data-derived argument for societal collapse. Drop it, okay?
Ok
Ok
However, neither of those things are reflected in either the models or the public policy responses to the models.
Hell, the CDC specifically states that closing schools is not necessary unless there has been an infected person in the building (and then only for 2-5 days to disinfect everything) or there is substantial community transmission. Did anyone read this fucking thing before they went hysterical?
Interim Guidance for Childcare Programs and K-12 Schools | CDC
Murphy closed every school in the state of NJ. Now he's told people to not be on the roads. What the hell does that have to do with COVID-19? Is the virus in my car or on the macadam?
This is a power grab. That is all.
And it's astounding to me just how many people are clamoring for this thing to have the worst possible outcome. Seattle is now a socialist hell-hole and people were literally begging the governor (via the usual channels) to put the state on mandatory lockdown. It took me quite a while of utter bewilderment to understand why, given the actual data. Then it occurred to me, its about them getting a stipend to hang out...a "living wage" if you will.
Seattle didn't alway used to be this way (I've lived here for 30 years), but over the last decade the change has been bubbling up.
Papa Giovanni XXIII Hospital has over 900 beds. It is a large hospital, and considered very well-equipped.
Global demand for ventilators is currently 10x supply. Everyone from Ford to https://www.nytimes.com/2020/03/22/opinion/ventilators-coronavirus-italy.html ]Italian guys with 3D printers are now making valves, which (as the article states), there are not enough of. HCWs are https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/system-doomed-doctors-nurses-sound-nbc-news-coronavirus-survey-n1164841]anonymously reporting the dire shortages of PPE, for fear of being reprimanded. The editors of JAMA are crowdsourcing ideas for dealing with the PPE shortage. I have first-hand knowledge of the rationing in NY and NJ hospitals.
Your standard for "shortage" is completely out of touch with reality. Until every HCW is stripped bare of an N95 mask, and oxygen cannot be supplied to anyone who has an accident in NYC, you will claim the world is in the grip of "unproven projections".
So, we have an appeal to authority and an ad hominem attack on Rip in the same post. I'm sure I could find more logical fallacies if I wanted to look further...I don't. Perhaps you wouldn't listen anyway, after all, I am just a college dropout who works on cars. May I suggest you constructively add to the conversation or leave.
Today's observations (so far):
I just loaded an engine into a truck to send off. The driver was dancing in my doorway (we have the doors locked) to be let in and go to the bathroom. Literally NO ONE will let a driver in their bathroom. He then told me they had reduced his hours so he was now working every other day with NO PAY for the days he wasn't working. He added the corporate offices have sent everyone home.
My attorney stopped by and said his son is one of a few of the DJ's left on the air on a very popular radio station here. Last night the boss walked in and told everyone who was not talent to go home with no pay because all advertising had been cancelled.
The largest electrical contractor in the state of Utah just laid off 200 electricians.
We have an extremely bad economic situation developing here.
Yet more doubt cast on the death statistics, via the exact problem I mentioned earlier:
Italy: Only 12% of “Covid19 deaths” list Covid19 as cause
