Went for my annual physical today. I’m up 45 pounds since last year and since this was a new doctor I don’t normally see, he saw on my chart the weight change. My BP was also high (140/80) but I struggle with it. Rip read my story on the running podcast, if you want to hear it. Thanks Rip!

Anyway, my doctor asked me if it was mostly muscle I’d gained. A fair question since he’s never seen me before. I told him yes. He then asked what I did to gain the muscle. I told him squats, deadlifts, bench, and press. He sort of let out a low whistle and then said to make sure I don’t lift over 150 pounds because the valsalva could cause an aneurysm - especially the squat and the deadlift. I told him that I pressed 150 over my head yesterday, for reps, and did not die. He told me that I’m asking for trouble. I didn’t know how to respond, but then I remembered an article from Dr. Sullivan (sp?) and asked him “How do you empirically know that?” He didn’t really have much to say, to be honest. He just changed the subject to COVID.

He asked if I was staying home, socially isolating, and wearing a mask. I told him, “No. I’m not particularly concerned about any of this. I’m not a social butterfly but I go to the gym and I go out to eat. I’ll wear a mask if the business I’m patronizing requires it.” He did a good job, but I could tell I pissed him off. He then began to lecture me that being overweight (I’m 6’2”, 222) and high risk because of my blood pressure that I would likely find myself on a ventilator.

He then told me an anecdotal story about 6 of his friends who went to dinner and all got COVID. One of them, he said, was in the hospital for a week. I told him, “I know the risks. Just as your friend did. I’m good with it.”

He then said, “I need to check you for a hernia.”

He didn’t find one, but said “I’m surprised. Usually guys lifting heavy have a hernia.”

Then I left. On my way out the door, he dropped his pen and I got the amusement of watching him try to squat down to pick it up. He needs to squat more.

The more I play it back in my head, the more annoyed I become. The entire experience made me feel like he was annoyed that I had a say in my own health and well-being.
New doctor. This guy is a fool, and he assumes you are too.

yeah, that and it's hard to believe this thread closes Wednesday,

No doubt a fool. I wonder if he'd tell a cyclist, "I'd prefer you didn't ride because a cement truck could hit you?" I've lost 2 friends to cycling accidents. How many friends have you lost to lifting accidents, Rip?

Add Germany to that list, it's exactly what's happenig here. The (rising number of the) "few" who speak against the insanity are labelled as unreasonable party fools or conspiracy theorists jeopardizing everyone.

    Hehe! Made me chuckle
I guess we both don't lift heavy enough yet, as we don't have hernias

I had a similar experience with our new company doc last mandatory (every 2 years) checkup. My kidneys will fail (protein, you know), my joints will crumble (weights too heavy, see), and my heart will explode or just stop.... it's insane. She didn't even ASK about my diet or how much weight I was lifting - just that it was "too much" (not that numbers would have actually meant anything). The only good part was that she didn't seem to believe me that I don't take steroids. A reasonable conversation was not possible, even though I'm a medical doctor myself. Lab work and blood pressure were spotless as well. Pissed me off immensely, but in the end, not worth it. Speak again in twenty years.

Anyway, you seem to have reacted well to the onslaught of bullshit. On a side note, I'm the same weight and about 6'1" or a hair under, and I'm trying to get my weight to 227 - then I'll be labelled clinically obese (BMI>30kg/m²). I still consider myself a skinny lifter.

So, vote is over? Can we end the "pandemic" now? Germany will follow the USA with a few weeks or months delay, as usual...

Why not use any excuse to continue with the plan. The German media has been so full of bullshit articles representing the power of German industry and pretty much hailing the destruction of the entire service sector, it has been amazing. This is straight up communist propaganda, especially this fetish for manufacturing over life.

As for a clearly stated plan, look up the last five or six communications by the ECB, they pretty much want a permanent deficit for the entire Community. Now, since the ECB’s policy does not move without an explicit backing from Berlin...
I don't know, if I exactly see what you mean, but I get the idea. Have to do some homework now. Thanks.

Watching Morning Joe this morning was the best. All of these intellectuals with their mouths open wondering where all these Trump supporters came from. These people are so clueless it is not even funny. I watched the same people go on and on about how Trump looked "defeated" in the debate, "he doesn't want to be president," or "he is mentally incompetent." These same people now wondering how Trump got it so right.......are the same people who want to control how a pandemic is handled too. Paraphrased from one leftist pundit "it really doesn't matter if he (Trump) loses by a narrow margin, with the results we have,he has more power and support than before the election. He is never going away." The last part made me smile a bit. I don't always agree with Trump, but I certainly do not want him leaving politics.

    Long night last night.....

Have resigned to the fact that Trump will lose this election and we'll be stuck with a dementia filled administration, who will be substituted for a Marxist administration

Damn- I was planning to press 150 today but guess I’ll have to skip it. Still, it gives me time to get this massive hernia repaired I’ve been dragging around since the start of NLP.

Trump’s final pitch that Biden is a Trojan Horse for socialism is stupid. A Biden administration won’t be run by AOC plus 3, as Trump claims. It will be a nexus for Bush/Cheney neocons, CIA types, Democrat War hawks, the corporate press, big business and big tech. So, much worse.
