Evil men, highway robbers, thieves, and tyrants have been with us from the beginning of time and will, I suppose, be with us to the end. Francisco d'Anconia's speech (quoted above) is what turned my wife instantly from liberalism's grasp. She literally sat up in bed after reading it and insisted on re-reading out loud it to me. Ahhh...the unforgettable taste of the red pill. Alas, there are few who listen to reason and are willing to change their mind when confronted with new facts and ideas. Of course it is no surprise looking back...she has lifted with me for years.
When I first read your quote I was watching this doc: FRONTLINE | Poor Kids [2012] | Season 2017 | Episode 21 | PBS and mistakenly thinking that it made sense to be sad when the 9 y/o girl was at the pound saying goodbye to the dog her family could no longer afford, particularly when the attendants were gamely listening, with ache in their eyes, as she stumbled through a tearful, earnest explanation of the thing’s fondness for bones and dislike of baths. If you’d believe it, I nearly permitted myself a few moments of guilt as I watched them affect wan little smiles and strain to hold her gaze, fiercely determined to protect the little girl’s brittle, miraculous ignorance to the fact that the animal would be euthanized within days. In the intellectually disheveled state your comments found me in, David, I permitted myself to be stirred as it occurred to me that by dutifully preserving this little shred of innocence for one of the most vulnerable and unfortunate members of their community, these women were carrying out one of the countless unsexy, uncompensated acts of heroism that together make up the only reason for hope in this bleak, twisted world—the faint, warm glow shining out of the murk.

... but yeah, your thing about how philanthropists deserve to be murdered or whatever is dope, too

Your problem is PBS. The left lies.

Basically the entire federal policy program of the progressive wing of the democrat party is engineered to facilitate wealth transfer from poor→rich by

    1) guaranteeing lucrative state-commissioned projects for transnational corps (Green New Deal), funded out of the general tax receipts
    2) creating sinecures/doddle-contracts within the realms of academia/public sector for the wealthy ‘educated’ classes, all funded by the general tax receipts (Green New Deal, ‘Diversity training’, etc)
    3) establishing faux-universal gov’t programs that actually disproportionately benefit relatively well-off credentialed professionals and families headed thereby (free college, Universal daycare, et cetera)

At the local level? Worse. The Atlanta City Council, all Democrats occupying what are considered to be VERY safe seats, announced last week that they would be allocating 125K out of the general tax receipts to fund a privatized “supplementary” police force for Buckhead, one of the city’s trendiest and most affluent Northside neighborhoods. Context is important here: Buckhead is not one of the most “high-crime” areas of Atlanta. It isn’t even in the top half. It’s just a little more crime than you might expect, based on the property values and similar metrics. The plan is drawing “only” 125k of public funding at the moment, but the promotional literature it’s architects distribute reports cheerily that they expect to shift the entire financial burden of their special snowflake police force on to Atlantan’s in general in due time. (The Buckhead Security Plan - Executive summary)
I'd say I have to agree with you here--governments are usually in the business of transfer payments to their donors. Unfortunately, Republicans aren't much better.

Your fondness for Marxism, however, is a disease worse than your imaginary cure. I've spent more time in the wreckage of Marxist fantasies than I care to remember.

What happens in animal shelters is rather horrific if you ever have the unfortunate experience of actually being there when they carry out their grim task.

Even so, the Socialist/Marxist countries that I have been to routinely treated animals in even more barbaric ways.

Ceaselessly. But these https://files.epi.org/2012/ib339-figureD.png are just numbers. The forces that have indisputably come to define 'leftism' in this country can and do exploit the tragedies underlying them for profit. But they are tragedies, nonetheless.

I'm proposing a New Thread Rule:

Anyone posting about "no evidence" of the Great 2020 Election Steal, or that we're all conspiracy theory kooks to even think or advocate that we should look into it-

Must henceforth post screenshots of their emails and political posts from around the time of Kavanaugh's confirmation, to see how strongly they defined all of THOSE allegations and all of THAT quackery as unworthy of being looked in to, too.

This sounds a lot like the argument that there is no such thing as Anti-Fa.

Do you really not know what led to the rise of the Third Reich?

You are right that much of it has been oversimplified or mischaracterized. The mainstream Republican Party even agrees with many of the principles.

The most glaring intellectual error in your logic and emotions, Haghstall, is that the USA has allowed its community to be torn apart as Progressives struggle to elicit empathy from you, dopey American taxpayer, for every single living being out there whom God or Karma has determined should live a more vulnerable or unfortunate life than Americans.

Recall that in Robert Putnam's classic Bowling Alone," the author, as he lamented the woe of a crumbling social cohesiveness and civic society, deliberately withheld for decades the clear correlation his data showed between the increase in immigrants and decrease in a civic connection amongst residents of the cOmmUnItY. Why was he fearful of releasing that statistical observation; whose narrative did it destroy?

So, believe it or not, the most EMPATHETIC (and liberty-maintaining, as a nice side benefit) solution for your vulnerable members of your community is to allow the communities themselves (churches, benevolent societies, EXTENDED FAMILIES, local governments, what have you) to determine whom and how to help.

That followers of your political persuasion have disintegrated traditional cultural barriers to non-familial life, propose only large governmental solutions to helping the most vulnerable, and demand ever-larger tax receipt$ from the serfs of our society to fund their Big Government (non-community-based) solutions says quite a bit about the EMPATHY in which their opinions are rooted.

Or perhaps I am off here - but then help me understand why, for example, the Somalian refugee deserves less empathy from the well-to-do wHiTe man than the nine-year-old black girl in the ghetto, given that the government has imported the former and wasted the HUWHITE MAN'S income and YOUR precious tax receipts on the Somalian rather than her? And OK, maybe these empathetic government expenditures are not zero-sum, but then think about HOW the government could possibly more efficiently help both of those vulnerable community members, than their own families and friends, or churches, etc.?

Have you thought your empathy-based big government solutions fully through?
