The "Land of the Free and Home of the Brave" shit just passed the expiration date. It's very sad to watch it happen so fast.
I talked to a couple today. They own rental cabins and a gift shop down by the Ohio River. They've brought their employees back to work and they're quietly opening next Monday since they have people with cabins reserved. They're very mild mannered and probably would never stand up to a direct government order to shut down, but if enough people start doing this, what are the police going to do? It'll be like trying to enforce laws against smoking weed, or prohibition during the 30s. There are already literal speakisies popping up where people can work out or get their hair cut.

I've got about 50 years left on the Earth, so I need to fake a little optimism to get through my day and stay sane. The economy is in a recession/depression and will be for months. The US might get another World War before the end of this, but at least people like you and this lady give me some hope.

I don’t know what Taleb thinks about reproducibility in general, but he thinks Ioannidis is an idiot.

You want Congress to bankrupt the insurance companies too? You don't often think clearly, mainstream.

She's been posted a couple of times already, but it seems like a side issue to me. We already know about Fauci.

I know! I know! Let’s make another law!

How about we pass a law that you can’t infringe on the right of assembly, speech, religion, press, petition your gov for redress...

    Oh. We already tried that.

People will put up with emergencies and temporarily go along when everyone is uncertain. People will not, however, put up with socialists continually moving goal posts.

Somebody a few pages back suggested businesses may have the right to claim " damages" by the government shutdown and thus seek compensation, and I was only pointing out that some insurance policies have catastrophic coverage that covers " Natural disasters " which some lawyers claim should cover pandemics; however, insurance spokesman have said that these so- called Natural disasters are spelled out in the policies and Pandemics are not listed thus insurers would not pay.

However, Congress having power over Interstate Commerce could write a law stating that COVID -19 is a Natural disaster and thus would be covered by these types of policies....

Now as far as the soundness of that...and would it bankrupt Insurance Companies and further hurt our economy....hmmm....

First of all, I don't know how widespread these policies are, what the criteria are that must be met to be eligible and then there would be caps...

But the more simple question is...Should this be considered a "Natural Disaster"?

The answer obviously is yes, but its not the disaster that destroyed the business but the Government response to it....so that gets a little confusing to me....in other words what is Natural and what is man - made...

So to me both owe the business person something...it probably, for a whole host of reasons , will require Congress to define it , with specific dates even, say March 1- May 20 and Insurance companies would be required to cover those dates a business was prohibited from operating and then pass a Stimulus bill that includes Insurance companies
