Wasn't The Gretch also depositing COVID-19 patients in nursing homes? "How The Gretch Stole Grandpa."

Why nursing homes couldn't strongly resist:

Nursing homes predominantly care for 2 groups: short-term postacute care patients with Medicare coverage and long-term residents with Medicaid coverage. Medicare is a relatively generous payer, whereas Medicaid often pays below the cost of caring for these frail and medically complex individuals. Thus, the economics of nursing home care hinges on admitting enough short-term Medicare beneficiaries to cross-subsidize the care of long-term residents with Medicaid coverage.

It's not the fault of the nursing home industry. And in New America, the pieces of shit who are at fault will never see the inside of even a jail cell.

If you were in charge of a company that did this, you would get life in jail. If you "failed to report" somebody who did this, you might get 10 years.

If you did even half of what the cops are getting away with, you would get life in jail or summary execution at the hands of the police.

If you did what the county health directors have done, you would face life-ruining litigation and blacklisting for 20 years.

And here we are watching the good cops, good intelligence agents, good officials being replaced when they act with integrity.

I look at the upcoming elections and realize that I have the illusion of the choice of voting for a fascist democratic socialist or a spineless globalist republican. Our incompetent and corrupt officials cannot be replaced anymore. Our system no longer allows it.

Makes me feel "grateful" that much of this mess, both health wise and politics, has avoided Florida, for the most part, and Tampa specifically. Not perfect, but nothing like what is happening elsewhere.

Republican governor, Democrat Mayor. Mayor did want some harder core lock downs several weeks ago, but those were not approved.

South Park wasn't the first to notice it, but this isn't a recent problem. I'm convicned the terrible choices we're given are actually a feature of republics, not a flaw.

I've voted Libertarian for most presidential elections since I turned 18, but I like Rip's idea of automatically voting against the incumbent. That way I'm at least keeping the rats on their toes instead of throwing away my vote.

I'll be called crazy by some for posting this, but Moldbug's reading of the current state of things is worth perusing, especially if you want an analysis of democracy that you've probably never heard before:

Governors are trying to blame federal guidance of March 13th for their policies:
Nursing homes should admit any individuals that they would normally admit to their facility, including individuals from hospitals where a case of COVID-19 was/is present.
That does not say COVID-19 patients should be admitted.

Compare to the March 25th directive of the NY Health Department:
No resident shall be denied re-admission or admission to the NH solely based on a confirmed or suspected diagnosis of COVID-19. NHs are prohibited from requiring a hospitalized resident who is determined medically stable to be tested for COVID-19 prior to admission or readmission.
    Cuomo on May 10th:
Any article 28 general hospital shall not discharge a patient to a nursing home, unless the nursing home operator or administrator has first certified that it is able to properly care for such patient. Provided further, that any article 28 general hospital shall not discharge a patient to a nursing home, without first performing a diagnostic test for COVID-19 and obtaining a negative result.
This offers little assurance, because the PCR test has low sensitivity (~70%).

    Unsurprisingly, NJ copy-and-pasted NY's policy.

If the semi-shutdowns have been so devastating to our economy, how come all those people have all that money to throw around at pool parties, resorts, restaurants, and other luxuries?
