It has only infected a maximum of 15%, maybe 20% in New York. Read Dr. Osterholm and try to focus. Besides, your feaux bravery won’t do any good for the pregnant mother your idiocy infects.

One (silly) man’s “cowering” is another man’s concern for his fellow citizens. No self-respecting soldier wouldn’t go to war with a selfish boob like you.

Sunlight and fresh air are probably a bigger factor than people admit.

I'd say that the rise in deaths in NY were from people hiding from the weather and then hiding from the kung flu, which both created higher viral loads among the people that they did have contact with.

Floridians were banned from going to certain establishments, but we didn't stay in....and many didn't even stay home.

There was a local car rental company that had an "accidental" fire that destroyed quite a bit of their inventory right as the shutdowns began happening. Probably a complete coincidence.

The almost permanent bureaucrats make the whole idea of draining the swamp seem like a pipe dream. Add in the fact that what appears to be most people see the government as a means to leverage themselves in order to take advantage of the fruit of the labor of others make a benevolent monarchy seem like a vast improvement over the current representative government.

Is your stupidity physically painful for you or just us?

it's gonna take more than two weeks for the effects of the economy to kick in, but unlike this pussy of a virus, we have tons of past data to chart realistic predictions as to the outcome of 30,000,000 unemployed Americans. Barring some incredible bordering turnaround, bordering on a miracle, we are not exaggerating if we expect more economic related deaths in the US alone than we will see from Beer Flu death worldwide.

This possibility only existed in the sense that anything is possible. The fear porn was based on Italy's numbers and anyone who knew jack shit about Italy knew that those numbers were complete bullshit and had zero bearing on the vast majority of the US outside of it's most corrupt cities.

I like the "Lord, turn their hearts or turn their ankles." attitude. The new Marxism plays on the genuine virtues of a lot of people lacking in skepticism or historical perspective, so I am always willing to allow for that, but the ideology is not just some difference of opinion of how to get to shared goals. It's an evil anti-human cancer and any attitude short of a war-like hatred of it just gives way to it's spread.

Those who throw down their arms can be allowed to reintegrate into humanity, but the rest can suffer the fate all good commies deserve.

I suspect that the parallels for AGW and all the other pseudosciences based on crap data, worse models, and even worse speculation and the rampant failures in science-ing the Kung Flu has a lot to do with why so many government funded scientists are so slow to admit their obvious failures. They are such autists that they cannot grasp that the ship has already sailed though and pretty much the only people who still "trust" them do so for ideological reasons rather than scientific ones.

I’m still not sure what you’re clamoring for. You certainly must know that a lockdown, “China style,” just isn’t going to happen, especially not now.

So, what we get instead is a shitty lockdown with a bunch of big businesses open, and a bunch of small ones closed; a bunch of states mostly reopened, and a handful still mostly closed.

Truthfully, what the fuck good does that do other than increase poverty and why would anyone keep advocating for that?

You people can’t have it both ways. If 60% of the people are going to get the virus no matter what we do, and the people who will die from it are either going to do so now or 6 months from now, then the net result is the same in terms of COVID-19 fatalities. This renders the CFR, IFR, etc... completely irrelevant.

So, now we’re weighing the difference between lives affected by a total economic shutdown and lives affected by a medical system that will allegedly be clogged to capacity. Where I live, we’ve been officially out of lockdown for 5 weeks and the ER wait time is still <5 minutes. There might have been a one week period in which people seemed scared. Then they adjusted and stopped caring. That was at least 2 months ago. I still know of no one personally whose contracted it.

So, explain what it is you’re trying to solve here...

The National Football League takes in roughly $17 billion annually, and not one of the owners relies on income from their team to earn their substantial livings. The primary workforce, the players, represents exemplary health and strength. If the Poobahs of professional sports, let alone college sports, meant a word of the tonnage they spill about "character," and "self-sacrifice," and "teamwork" which they profess means more than just winning games, they would announce that for this one year they'd abandon the idea of trying to play games, particularly without live fans, and will dedicate their manpower and resources to public service, at least until we are closer to a vaccine. They have the money for all personnel to be tested and traced, and they can put their people to the tasks of driving the sick to treatment, delivering meals to the poor, providing child care for the children of those who must work, particularly in health care fields. They'd never appear in public without a mask, and would make it clear they are repaying the public for their loyalty and for the enormous wealth the public has bestowed on them. I can't wait to read the howls on this blog over this idea.

I've voted Libertarian for most presidential elections since I turned 18, but I like Rip's idea of automatically voting against the incumbent. That way I'm at least keeping the rats on their toes instead of throwing away my vote.
I'll be called crazy by some for posting this, but Moldbug's reading of the current state of things is worth perusing, especially if you want an analysis of democracy that you've probably never heard before:
Chapter 1: The Red Pill | A Gentle Introduction to Unqualified Reservations | Unqualified Reservations by Mencius Moldbug
    I will read it.

    My belief is that:
    1. Universal suffrage does not work, which is why we were intended to have a constitutional republic with strong protections for civil liberties and restrictions on who could vote.

    2. The system of checks and balances has broken down.

    3. There is a massive amount of systemic fraud and abuse in our current iteration of the electoral system.

    4. Most people are not smart enough, sufficiently informed enough, motivated enough or rational enough to demand accountability from corrupt or incompetent government officials. This effect is amplified by a mail-in balloting system, even if there were no fraud involved. The effects are very obvious in races for sheriff, judge retention and attorney general; Most people will usually just check the retention box without any knowledge of or care about what they are voting for. The others tend to do as they are told by the media or an authority figure. At least they voted, so they can virtue-signal about it to their friends, employers, neighbors.

I rarely vote, because the system has broken. I will vote for a select few officials in the hope that it matters and they can implement positive change.

I view the outcomes of most elections in modern day America as illegitimate.

Name one that we've ever stopped in its novel year. Then, tell me the average time and amount of trials necessary to develop an efficacious vaccine.

Then list how many we've stopped compared to how many we haven't.

Now, justify closing the economy over it.

The "Oh, dear, the children" shit gets really old, Rip. A woman's primary immune system is suppressed while she's pregnant so that it doesn't attack the child, but exposure of the mother to pathogens is critical in developing IgG antibodies to pass to the child in utero. It's almost as if these traits were selected for after millions of years of evolution. And like how eating dirt and shoving things (including dirty hands) in their mouths helps children expose their immune system at a critical point in their development. And how, immediately, it was evident this virus did NOT attack mothers or children at a significant rate -- the opposite, in fact. My bias is pretty simple: I was over it as soon as I knew my children would survive it. I want to say that was early January.

    "bUt ThInK oF tHe ChIlDrEn!!!"

Speaking of laughs, did anyone else read the NYT's article: What the Coronavirus Revealed About Life in Red vs. Blue States - The New York Times I did some quick comparisons and it's look like being a Democrat is an underlying condition.

You mentioned some posts back that you have lived elsewhere than NYC and not always in highly urban areas. I guess you must have missed Bill Engvall in those travels. It's his signature line for jokes.
