I asked her what she was up to and she informed me "I am working/volunteering for the democrat party." We spoke for a while about things, she parroted MSNBC and I had already heard the arguments...because I know what they are saying. She actually is not a raging liberal, but an old school democrat, who cannot leave the party. She wants the government system to work and she the Dems as her party, fair enough. To her point, "we already are a socialist country" (i had a hard time arguing against that point). What struck me about it all was that both of us live so close together in a subdivision with 23 houses and 2 cul-de-sacs, but see politics so different. However, hurricanes, humidity, and heat are all much bigger problems for both of us here. Sometimes I have to sit back and look at the forest, and unplug from the media. Because her and I have much more in common than MSM wants anyone to believe.

Can any of the reasonable people amongst us here disagree with Matt Walsh's summation of the situation, with a straight face?
    https://twitter.com/MattWalshBlog/st...857415168?s=20

Now, a certain political party encourages or remains neutral about the values the berating woman espouses. What deductions can we draw about that party and its adherents, given the destruction they are trying to deploy on our very social fabric?
I was checking out at my local Walgreens and the young man behind the counter says to me "They must think I am stupid". Huh? "They are stealing right in front of me". I asked him why he does not call the police. He told me he was not allowed to. I asked him why do I need to pay for the stuff on the counter then. "You don't, take it and walk out I won't do anything". I paid and left.

I had a simular conversation with the Walgreens lady closer to my house with a simular and even worse story. I will never shop at Walgreens again.

Or maybe having another condition that lowers your vitamin D also raises your coronavirus risk?

As per usual, the headline does not match what the study actually shows. This study does not test whether taking vitamin D will lower your risk; it only showed that people with lower vitamin D are at higher risk. This sounds like it might be the same thing but it is not. To decide whether taking the supplement is useful, they would have to compare people who were taking vitamin D with people who were not taking it, and whether increasing serum level with the supplement affected your risk of covid.

There is good evidence that having an inflammatory condition lowers serum vitamin D levels. This would explain why low vitamin D shows up in so many different disease states. If it is an effect, not a cause, it also explains why vitamin D supplementation has so far failed to prove helpful in so many disease states. It would be like noticing that house fires generate a lot of smoke, and smoke is bad, and concluding that if your house is on fire you should bring in some fans to clear the smoke out. It won't help, although unlike the fans, vitamin D probably won't make things worse. So its certainly possible that many of the people in the "low vitamin D" category had other conditions that lowered their D and that also raised their covid risk. If that's the case, then taking vitamin D will not reduce your covid risk.

That being said, vitamin D is cheap and safe, and many of us, especially in the great frozen north, are near deficient, so it's OK to take it. But I doubt it will reduce your risk of getting coronavirus very much (and your risk should already be very low if you are careful and paying attention).

It may be callous, but why doesn't Trump use the SCOTUS vacancy as a bargaining chip?
Because that is not how the system was designed, and for good reason...

Lee Smith has a long piece out that deals with the motivations of our Elite Betters in their hatred of Donald Trump. Rush Talked about it yesterday:

Lee Smith: The Establishment's Fear of Trump Is All About China - The Rush Limbaugh Show

Here's the original piece: America’s China Class Launches a New War Against Trump - Tablet Magazine

And the people who are low on vitamin D generally live that basement life, sheltering in place. Good luck having a strong immune system when you live isolated from pathogen exposure.

We talked about this several months ago. Vitamin D appears to be a proxy for doing the things that keep you from getting sick, and not prophylaxis itself. The old Cause-Effect/Correlation problem that stumps most mid-wits and everybody in the media without exception.

Something like "Pelosi gets to fill the vacancy with her personal pick in exchange for [some Republican wishlist item]." A lot of cool stuff could be on the table, but knowing our Republicans in Congress they'd probably settle for a slight decrease in marginal tax rates or more federal outlays for aircraft carriers. It'd be a fun debate nonetheless.
That would be the dumbest bargain ever struck. The "left" is uninterested in compromise. The "right" has been compromising for a long, long time, and this lack of "national unity" is the result of that trend stopping. Pursuing unity with an entity that is unceasingly hostile is called surrender.

Vitamin D is considered a promising treatment, with large RCTs underway. So far, the only complete RCT yields an odds ratio for ICU admittance of 0.03. (That is, 13/26 in the control group admitted to ICU, compared to 1/50 in the high-calcifediol group.)

Y'all are no fun. It's clown world now. Republican governors continue to lock down their states and enforce mask mandates, and the "conservative" SCOTUS judges (the kind you're fighting for now) continue to disappoint. The height of conservative political virtue is to ram through another John Roberts onto a court that will be packed to 13 seats anyway when Democrats come back into power? Why not have some fun watching Trump roll the "Pelosi picks the replacement BUT birthright citizenship is ended by statute" grenade across the table?
