From previous CDC data on influenza deaths (CDC - Page Not Found
Annual deaths from influenza have ranged from 12,000 to 61,000 over past 10 years.
Therefore COVID-19 (having already killed 251,000 people) has a 4-20x higher death rate than the “flu”.
Yes, there is a flu vaccine which likely reduces the number of flu deaths but then again, the COVID-19 deaths are set on a background of massive public health interventions. What would the COVID-19 death toll be if we had done nothing?
From your link, tell us: what is the flu's deaths/hospitalizations ratio? (The CFR, in ordinary terms.)

Now, be more wary of naive comparisons.

Aren't we also already being brought under the thumb? Today, if you say the wrong thing on your online platform and get doxxed, you can be denied an account with PayPal, etc. or like these two people in the UK recently, you can instantly, without warning, lose your bank account.
One generation lives in practical idealism.
One must practice practical realism in order to survive.

In traditional society, there was voluntary charity.
In diverse society, there is involuntary graft.

I will go further than that. Das Kapital and Mein Kampf should both be required high school reading.
How can you understand government, WWII or recent world history when the two most prominent texts are censored?

The dominoes leading to socialism in the US have been falling one-by-one... the only thing left to take from us are our guns and that's usually the last to go before socialism is activated.
We are nearing the end of phase 0: the preparation phase.
Phase 1 would be an escalation that primarily consists of passive resistance: Civil disobedience, strikes, shutting down society, refusing to pay taxes, mass protests, taking full advantage of government handouts without shame, refusal to recognize legitimacy of government or law etc.

When the communist revolutionaries won the 1970 election in Chile through massive voter fraud, passive resistance was enough to force the communists to appoint Augusto Pinochet as the General Chief of staff. Pinochet then had enough popular support and power to stage a military coup.
After the country was put back in order, Pinochet left Chile with a strong, reformed constitution that protected Chile for 50 years.

This thing is a psychological phenomenon on its own, but it seems to be universal. The most I've come up with by personal observation is that it starts happening when the panic level is rising, as it probably is in the US now, with all the closures and shit. Then when it subsides, a non-trivial proportion of people keep doing it. I'm not sure it has all that much to do with mask mandates at this point, people would probably be doing it even if they weren't being forced to wear masks. All of this leads me to conclude that Western countries will join the Asian ones in a permanent mask bonanza. I don't think there will be an official mask mandate, but it will be "common courtesy", with people looking at you wrong if you sneeze. I hope I'm wrong, but the best antidote to this is what Rip has been mentioning on the podcast, about laughing in the mask wearer's faces all the time.

Worth the time. Some novel nuggets and fresh perspective. But that doc must be cribbing from this thread.

Just so I don't misunderstand (cue a joke from Rip) your intent in bringing this up, are you saying that it would be beneficial to the U.S. if someone like Pinochet (Trump?) staged a coup and took power?

I'm happy to announce to all my European friends that I will most likely be joining you in another lockdown. Funnily enough, we seem to be going into lockdown at the precise stage where our case numbers have peaked and will start to go down, just like France, Belgium and the Czech Republic. This is a full blown farce.
