^ That’s what happens the day after an elected official in the most libertarian state in the union expresses this sentiment.

    This is a fact.
See how the Left works? First, note the lack of response to my points. Then the straw man is born: Texas is far from the most libertarian state in the union, and being a mayor in Texas does not make anybody a libertarian, but he makes the statement -- he builds the straw man -- and proceeds from there to dismantle that which only exists in his "argument." All of his posts do this very thing, and all the Leftists that post here do it too. I don't know where they learn this, but be assured that it is intentional, and it persuades stupid people all the time. It's a useful rhetorical tool in that respect. Maybe law school teaches this? Anybody know?

    And then he says:

You can call me a stupid child all you want, and I’ll bet you can believe it too.

That doesn’t change the fact that every single person who tries to convince you that what the ‘teams’ are wind/solar vs. fracking is intentionally misleading you and/or decidedly not a shrewd analyst of energy policy issues.

Heed these words, or risk being duped. I’m talking to all of you.
The Appeal to Sincerity. That works on stupid people too: "He really means it. He believes it. I guess he's right. And I don't want to be wrong, because that would make me wrong. It's important to listen to all sides, even if they make no logical sense, so I hope Rip keeps approving his posts!"

You might wanna try switching to Indica. The Sativa isn't a good fit for you.

And RINO's run on the 'Fight Against Socialism'.

I am not for socialism, but we could probably afford some if we did it in the US vs the world, like we do.

Rip, can you shed some light on why most of Texas isn't connected to the multi-state grids?

    I don't know, but I don't see it as a problem.

It's just started. How many adults of any political persuasion approve of this childish hatred?

His statement was not the brightest thing to say considering that he was a senior public servant whose job was to provide services to the public. Sounds like he was unhappy being the mayor and now he's free to do bigger and brighter things.

At that point in the game his primary job every time he got in front of a camera or made any sort of statement should have been a PSA about the dangers of carbon monoxide poisoning. Usually the most dangerous to come out of losing power in the cold is people killing themselves by accident to stay warm. Being cold sucks but you won't freeze to death if you're dry, out of the wind and are able to layer up clothing.

We had something similar happen here with an ice storm that dropped a bunch of power lines in the Acadian peninsula in 2017. All of the people who died were because of carbon monoxide poisoning. My regiment got called out to aid the civil power and their solution was to go house-to-house an hook up industrial strength forced air diesel space heaters to people's front doors and blast them with hot air for a few minutes to keep temperatures in the houses up.

When instruments at a generation facility freeze off and shut the whole place down, that type of thing trickles down to the level of an instrument tech saying something like “hey we should probably heat trace these impulse lines so they don’t freeze when it gets real cold”, and management saying something like “yeah, that would be nice but we don’t have the money for that right now.” Couple that with operators who have no experience of what to do when shit freezes and you’ve got a disaster.

Having been involved with electrical reliability in an industrial plant setting for the last ten years, I’ve seen it first hand, repeatedly. Except we have plenty of experience fixing shit when it freezes.
This guy gets it. I also work in the industry, and he captures it perfectly.

My guess is they never got round to making arrangements for inter-connectors. When you have the largest wind farm in the states who would be game in the "green" energy fraternity to admit they need redundant thermal energy. You should give the Electric Reliability Council a call and ask them the same question. I doubt you will get a real answer. I have asked similar questions to various Government agency's here about over reliance on wind generation and all I get is that wind is good for the environment and so on, but no answer to energy security.
