An stunning example of the Dunning-Kruger effect can be found in someone aiming to get published in JAMA, only to have their work published in a bottom tier online journal whose primary function is to provide a place for undergraduates and first year grad students to publish their data. I think you are referring to Bubba Wallace. From my understanding Nascar opened that investigation without Wallace asking for it. It turned out to be a noose used as pull rope. They concluded it had been in that garage before Wallace had used it. It was the only garage with a pull rope like that, Wallace gets tons of racist hate, NASCAR jumped the gun. I don’t really blame him but I think he could take a better stance in the future after what has come out about BLM.

The impenetrable persona is equally devastating as cynicism. I have been thoroughly guilty of the latter. I apologize that my posts over the last 2000 pages have veered so far from hard analysis into bedrock philosophy, but I have struggled to find a viable way forward beyond mere pragmatism.

My only additional, broadly-applicable insight of late has been to do the small things well. Wipe the coffee drips off the counter. Pick up the lone piece of trash. Put up the shopping cart that isn't yours. I don't know what it is about excellence without justification in such minute parcels, but it seems to have a powerful effect in the long run. The opposite seems equally powerful.
