But those sensors require much brighter targets than a balloon. See the pics.

I recall somewhere seeing that the F-22 had a F-15 as an escort as well as a tanker. The whole thing was referred to as a “task force” for a balloon.
What the F15 was escorting the F22 from wasn’t specified.

I don’t care enough to look it up, but I have a memory that an F22 only carries 200 rounds.
100% agree with the rest of your post though.

If you’re interested I can send you a list of them and the institutions they’re embedded in. Accuracy not guaranteed of course.

US citizens and illegals living in the US are the cartels' main clients. I mean, they have been fighting an honest to god war in Mexico for close to twenty years in order to decide who can sell more drugs to people north of the border - I think the casualty rate there is ten times what you have in Ukraine. I guess hitting your main client with a cruise missile is very 21st century, but I kind of get the feeling that those guys have much more sense for doing business.

Why didn’t “they” blame China for Covid? Instead they blame China for a balloon, but not Covid? Why would they keep other balloons private, but want to use this one as propaganda? This is probably a little more accurate, but less flashy. It seems to me China and Russia are getting more and more closer to their edge and are lashing out trying to provoke any change that may save them from the long term issues they will have. Russia gave Europe hope and then stabbed them in the back. Once the Europeans figure out their energy issues, Russia will be headed to a dark demise and the world will be drinking Dripping Springs Vodka.

To those saying we should "stop worrying about china and the balloon," you are missing the point. The point isn't that China launched it. The point is that we couldn't stop it. Our ridiculously well-funded military machine was unable to stop a fucking balloon, and had been warned in the past that something like this could happen.

Not so much we, but they keep their monopoly on printing money to infinity.

But don't get me wrong. When the petrodollar finally falls, we are all going to feel a lot of pain. The 2020 riots are going to look like a flash in the pan by comparison when the dependent classes stop getting their paychecks. But that is just an unavoidable consequence that we're going to have to deal with eventually anyway. It would have been better if we dealt with it in 1990, and even better if we dealt with it in 1980. It's always going to be worse today than yesterday, but continuing to kick the can down the road just makes the burden on future generations greater. So let's just do the hard shit now instead of doing even harder shit tomorrow. The avoidant option of trying to salvage the empire and keep the ponzi scheme going is a fool's errand.

    Others share this opinion.

If a Chinese spy balloon flew over Israel – Asia Times

After the Soviet Union dissolved, we shut down many of the western radar posts which look further west.

We did miss the balloon, which the linked article claims was a probe. Seems very plausible.

    Agree with the casualty rate.

I did not provide enough context. If the Ukraine war escalated to directly involve us directly threaten Russia's existence, Putin would have the option I described. Like the Bay of Pigs, but probably at a higher latitude.

Zeihan speaks big and sounds really convincing. As for me however, his haughtiness and overconfidence is a big red flag. I personally tend to harken to people who are more humble.
