According to a WSJ article that came out yesterday, AI are likely to replace a lot of white collar middle management positions. This could be good news because the jobs that AI will hopefully replace are Bullshit jobs as defined by the late Prof. David Graeber in his book; "Bullshit Jobs". As Graeber explains in the brief video below, Bullshit jobs are not the same as shit jobs (custodians, fast food, etc.). Although unpleasant and not well paid, shit jobs are actually needed and are in high demand. Bullshit jobs have negative impact and are usually found in large corporations.

Yet on MSNBC (of course) Sunday, “journalist” Jonathan Capehart perpetuated the myth, asking Mayorkas: “The president, yesterday at his commencement address for Howard University graduates, called white supremacy the major domestic terrorist threat in this country. Is that correct?”

And as we just observed:

Note how Mayorkas related “anti-government sentiment” to “white supremacy.” Old Joe revealed the game that is being played here last September when he said in his ominous red and black speech that “Donald Trump and the MAGA Republicans represent an extremism that threatens the very foundations of our republic.”

Just be careful when forecasting job losses with new technology. Historically it’s the opposite. The best example, in my lifetime, is that computers were going to eliminate jobs. No more secretaries etc. Now instead of one admin, we have half the office as IT specialists. Don’t get me started on paperless society…

Same for the combustion engine, robotic manufacturing , 3D printing, … the Biden administration claims the highest level of employment in history.

So will AI eliminate jobs? Everyone says yes but a betting man says probably no.

Not really. IT has shifted its model to require a lot less workers. Many businesses do not have dedicated IT staff at all, they rely on a company that sends IT contractors to do work when needed. A lot of the minor tech support stuff is resolved remotely, usually by someone in India or Pakistan. Usually only very large operations and/or people who are very protective of their shit have dedicated IT staff on payroll.

Oh, and the government unemployment statistic is a bullshit indicator. If things are bad enough for long enough, it resolves itself and stops counting people who have been without a job for a long time. We are absolutely transitioning as a society into requiring less human labor, and a lot of the labor we do require is being done by illegal and H1B immigrants. Those tech companies that you may have heard about doing massive layoffs? They've been applying for huge amounts of H1Bs from the government.

Well then I predict counter FrankNJ will be a huge growth industry despite the AI hysteria. The same way the birth of software viruses led to antivirus and eventually the cyber security industry.

Furthermore, fodder for all my conspiracy friends, when the MSN or any of its masters predicts AI being an existential threat, they are actually heavily invested in the counter measures. They create problems to solve problems.
