You know that's a funny aside, cuz I got to visit Istanbul this Christmas on a layover to the States and when we toured the big Hagia Sophia Mosque the tour guide wasn't apologetic at all for the battles & deaths that took place in order to conquer and re-capture the mosque, quite the opposite approach to history from the Native American Indian Museum in DC and the fucking Redskins who inexplicably changed their name to the Commandos, following in the Washington Bullets' weak-spined, capitulating footsteps.
I will hand it to the Turks for mostly keeping the Christian Icon/Mosaic artwork on the ceiling, very cool when you consider that this very cathedral is where the Orthodox/Christian schism occured. And all you history buffs should read up on how Sultan Mehmed II conquered the Byzantines, they couldn't break their boats through the huge 'Golden Chain' blocking the Golden Horn waterway, so they portaged their boats across the land instead!
