It's called projection. Progressives seem to have this affliction in spades for all manner of what are actually political agendas disguised as concern trolling and "settled science."

Also, that study or another one showed that when you put something mimicking a cotton mask between the cages, the virus is less likely to spread from hamster to another. There's also evidence that a carrier in a restaurant spread the virus to everyone else downwind of the A/C.
Yes. Agreed. This is a good first step towards scientifically investigating the spread of a disease. What it’s not, is an excellent way to determine what public policy should be.

Maybe we should start resolving election disputes with the descendants of Paul the Octopus next?

"Globalism vs nationalism" can be rephrased as "communism vs capitalism" or "democratic socialism vs self determination" or "progressives vs freedom"

The battle has been continuously waged since the French Revolution.

If we don't "fix" England (and Scotland), they will try to "fix" us. There is no guarantee of victory for either side, but we can be certain of painful conflict.

I immediately emailed a friend at Johns Hopkins, and she's already tendered her resignation, along with colleagues at M.I.T., U of Washington, the CDC and NIH. Osterholm at the University of Minnesota's CIDRAP (that's cidrap.umn.edu for those still foolish enough to pursue obsolete notions like science) hasn't come over from the dark side, but he's always been a prig, what with his spot-on predictions, and reliance on data and all. We'll probably just have to forget him. We're planning daily incantations to the glowing, almost-humming (2001 A Space Odyssey was a hell of a picture, wasn't it?) collection of pristine, serenely worded genius.

Then we're going to prove once and for all that the moon landings WERE filmed in a studio in Burbank, and there WAS a shooter on the grassy knoll, and there ARE black helicopters waiting at the UN to capture us all and put probes up our keisters, and... well, don't even get me started on Roswell, and Big Foot, and Lock Ness, and....
Darrow, your self-congratulating sarcasm is matched only by your lack of a real name for your profile, leading me to believe you don't seek advice in the form-checking sections of these other threads for strength-seekers, and whatever that may say about your character.

The biggest error in your logic is that you're basing your conclusion on an incorrect assumption, that the people in charge of us have our best interests at heart.

I won't debate your strawman conspiracy theories except to say that I've come to understand that "conspiracy theory" is just the latest term in the braindead big-government-believer's toolbox to silence any further analysis or critique of (independent thinking about) any given situation.

I called it to friends and family back in February that this involuntary voluntary curfew would last well into the summer, because the only way it couldn't would be if our leaders had had our best interests at heart. I long ago have found that to be demonstrably (and in a quite widespread way) false, and hence here most of us are, still in some sort of "voluntary" lockdown state, with summer knocking on the door.

But instead it has morphed into, "if we all stay at home and don't work, the government will have to meet our needs." It's as if there is a fear that if I go to work and provide for my family that people might expect everyone to go to work and provide for their families. It seems so selfish and cowardly.

I can honestly say that this experience, even more that my multiple tours as a Soldier, has destroyed my faith in my fellow man. I knew that most people are soft and want to be sheep. I never knew the extent that emotional and intellectual laziness could rule their decisions.

It's 1030 and I'm drinking Weller Antique 107 and working spreadsheets. Cannot imagine many things less inspiring.

ATW, I really feel for you; I see things like this

And hear the very well-to-do (Muscovite) parents of my students trusting in the dangerousness of the Wuhan Flu, and I lose so much faith in my fellow man.

The little fourth-grade girl was so excited that her elite private school that had just opened up again, in an online format, was showing them this video.
What kind of sick minds think up jingoistic propaganda like this to show to CHILDREN, to make them feel bad about hugging, shaking hands with, or playing closely with their friends!? Sick. Add them to our fantasy "hanging those [treasonous power-hungry "leaders" who are] responsible" list, Rip.

But I was thinking earlier today about how the Hindus say that we have entered the "Kali Yuga" period (disclaimer, I'm am nowhere near very well-versed on Hindu philosophies; I'm a true novice).
Whatever, if you're more Christian (I'm a christened Catholic), you can think of it as the beginning of the End Times.
In any case, what I was thinking about is that if there really are more "evil" spirits (or spirits with very difficult karma) being born, it would explain a lot of the support for Wuhan Flu restrictions, blind support (sycophantism) for big government, and a hell of a lot of the other social ills infecting our societies today.
I dunno, this thought hasn't been fully formulated yet, but it made me feel strangely peaceful about not feeling an urge to "educate" friends and family about their farm animal-like behavior, or at least not get frustrated when everyone blindly (no analysis or critical thinking, particularly about motivations, done) believes the propaganda pushes.

Stuffing paper towels down a toilet does not cause sewage from a main to back into the building. That’s not how it works. That would cause the one toilet that is clogged to flood over when flushed. Backup from the main Would result in sewage coming in from all toilets. So if it was someone clogging a toilet it was miss reported.

Maybe they're going from one store to another and just leaving it on for the duration. Or maybe they have a condition 25-years-olds can have (asthma, diabetes, cancer) and choose to be extra cautious. I mean, who knows or cares? Wearing a mask in the car is their choice, for whatever reason, and not a mandated behavior, so why are you so certain of them being pussies? But your judgmental nature seems to show itself at every turn, almost reflexively. No doubt lawsuits will ensue about masks and other restrictions, which is how "illegal orders" get invalidated, fairly quickly, by process. If my law books are still correct, we follow these until such time they're declared illegal, or we risk penalty. If masks are declared "illegal orders" a lot of people will probably opt to keep wearing them, based on the advice of health experts. But my government says I have to wear my seatbelt when driving (even though the only person harmed would be me) and my government won't let me drink while driving or use my phone (on the grounds doing so may bring harm to others), and I haven't heard those are "illegal orders" even though they limit my choice and freedoms.

You are a great point with the automobile metaphor, TD! What the phuck were my parents (and perhaps many of you; I'm in my mid-thirties)
doing in the late nineties when all these speed and other cameras got shoved down our throats!?
I was thinking if this last month when my sister-in-law tried to sneak is back into Moscow to get the rest of our things before the "pass" system was put into place, were relieved when we crossed the city lines only a little after midnight and didn't see any checkpoints, but then heard the next day about those cameras being used to cross reference license plates against travel passes that had been issued (Russia is admittedly much further along this path than we are, although in not as many ways, and not in the ways that our lying MSM would have you believe).

Then, driving to our new home in the regions (just as "locked down," but the voluntary involuntary Quarantine is much less policed), I was surprised that sister-in-law was crushing the speed limit at regular intervals - she by now knew where all the cameras were on the road to/from Moscow.

I remember in my younger years, in the early-2000s, hearing about Europeans fire-bombing and otherwise destroying these money printer boxes, and thinking that that was a bit....extreme (young and not a liberal, no heart, blah blah blah).

We used to be able to determine for ourselves how safe we could drive, and evaluate the risk ourselves of whether we'd see the cop in time.
Now, speed cameras have solved all of that, and why the hell did we ALLOW (there's that word, only in it's correct, patriotic usage!) then to be installed throughout our land of the free and home of the brave!?

You can similarly see how with some of these Wuhan Flu measures (since government always creeps forward in rescinding liberty- it never recedes back) there is a strong risk of them being "normalized" and becoming permanent, especially since I have no doubt that our politicians (and especially bureaucrats!) do NOT have our best interests at heart!!

Lest I be accused of whataboutism, you decided to make the automobile metaphor, TD, and Bravo! It's quite a good one when discussing the likelihood of "mission creep" as the government "returns" (lovely use of that verb!) our liberties to us.

***On a side note, any student Veterans out there? I used to work in higher ed with the GI Bill and I know how needed those monthly stipends are; I hope they weren't reduced because everything moved online (through no choice of your own) during this involuntary voluntary lockdown. Thank you for your service, and stay strong and optimistic during this whole mess!! There ARE people out here on our great country who treasure the liberties you fought to help protect!

The federal government controlled the borders. The matter was -- and rightly so -- left up to the states, counties, and localities, and the federal government should do absolutely nothing else except get out of our way. The federal government fucked up when it deferred to Fauci, Birx, and the health/science bureaucrats with regard to policy suggestions. These people are clearly incompetent, and the only way even you would disagree with this obvious fact is because you just don't know anything about what has happened. The real fools here are state/county/local governments who deferred to Fauci et al when there was no reason to do so, and who have failed to correct their obvious mistakes since then. Every possible thing that could have been done wrong was done wrong. They should stop doing and let us deal with this the way contagious diseases have always been dealt with.

Except even with the lockdowns, in four months the COVID pandemic has made the flu look like....the flu. Keep trying. Actually, quit while you're not too far behind.

You sure were genuinely interested in his response. No ulterior motives. Good job.
