I think maybe you all in rural Texas are blighted with some fairly simple minds in the public sector, but I can guarantee you that minds with intellects *even superior to your own* have struggled mightily with the downstream effects of these policies and reluctantly come to the conclusions we see playing out before us.
The government knows how to count costs? Please alert the media.

    Actually, forget the media.

You don't want to go there, Herr Tallison. Let's not get nasty.

I can only speak for my grandparents. In the 1930's Grandma was raise in rural Nebraska in sod roofed house with a horse as transportation. While I never asked her about the social life of a farmer, I'm going to conclude based on the stories she told me, they didn't get out much. Even today, there are places out west where town is a 2 hour drive.

    That was an excellent podcast.

And it’s free. What a time to be alive.

In general, the rural population is probably older and more likely to get together in large groups and spit in each others face (sing) and rub hands and hug (i.e., church) than their city cousins. Even in the most rural states, the populations are concentrated in cities. Another thing to consider is healthcare infrastructure -- it's sparse and only been getting sparser, of late -- when everybody in a state has to travel 200 miles to concentrate all the illness in one place, that's both more likely to lead to bad outcomes (for lack of access) and sets up one hell of a petri dish to be managed by medical professionals doing their time to work off their loans before they can go elsewhere to really get their careers started or those who couldn't get a job elsewhere (there are always exceptions, but at this level of analysis, we're just talking probabilities). I don't know how all of this shakes out -- I am *not* an epidemiologist -- but I would say there might be reason for concern, here.

I think people get confused when they see all the rich city folk running to the countryside. It IS true that isolation is easier to effect in a rural setting -- but unless you have enough wealth to be self-sufficient in your country estate/compound, the lack of services and continued need to congregate with your fellows do not necessarily make it the better option.
You really need some fetchin' up about the current rural environment Mein Herr. This is 100 years later, and aside from church attendance, the congregation of people in rural areas is much less common than it was in 1918. A kinder person might forgive you your iggerance, but I am not that guy. You don't live here, indications are you have never spent time in rural America and yet you have the temerity to make inept comparisons. That spit in people's faces trope probably bolsters your sense of superiority to Americans in general and hicks in particular, but spittoons do not populate the rural landscape, and Red Man chew is relatively rare these days.

Great podcast. Some of your very best work.

    And saved the best for last in my opinion;

And in addition to that, if you're looking... there are two sides to this problem. There's the disease side of the problem and then there's the effect on society side of the problem.

    Andrew Mueller
You have to look at both. You have to.

Like an actuary. You have to look at all the data because there's a cost benefit analysis. A risk benefit analysis to this situation. People are going to die now. Yeah, but they're gonna die. People are gonna die anyway. But like we mentioned earlier, is the cure worse than the disease? And we are headed in the direction of hell yes.

    01:14:00
    Andrew Mueller
    Yeah, quite possibly.

    01:14:03
    Mark Rippetoe
Quite possibly. It most assuredly will be. Appreciate your being here today. Andrew, thank you for coming in. Stef, thanks for coming in. Dr. Mueller, Dr. Bradford joined us here on Starting Strength Radio.

The question EVERYBODY needs to be asking themselves right now, 'is the cure worse than the disease?'

I feel I should contribute to this discussion. Wow, what an ugly display of ignorance. Neck getting pretty sore holding that nose in the air? To blindly assume that our Kings and Queens know what the hell they are doing is laughable and lends more evidence to your level of ignorance. Hope that helps.

Actually “spitting in people’s faces” was a reference to what one is doing when one gets together and sings - like the choir that was so surprised that they managed to pass the virus amongst themselves so well, despite not having shaken hands or hugged. My grandfather was a country preacher and I expect I have as much insight into the tribe as you, Mr. California. We should continue this conversation (if at all) with some actual numbers or modeling from real infectious disease specialists. Finally, just because you Americans tend to have little insight/concern/knowledge about folks outside your borders - or a couple of states away, for that matter- doesn’t mean that’s how everybody is.

Tallison, you are a giant pain in the ass. I dislike you now more than ever, and I've never liked you.
