Unfortunately, like you mentioned, some of the answer to this is "custom tailoring". If you buy a shirt that fits everywhere, a tailor can bring in the too-big parts for $10-20 per item. Fewer, higher quality clothes is the way to go. But it does suck when your weight is constantly in flux and even those high quality clothes don't last long.
But I did like that they talked at length about specific fabrics and stuff that worked better.

I’m not ready to go full lycra/spandex yet though. Maybe when I’m 40 and take up cycling.
