If one wanted to specialize in the press, how should the press be programmed? How and when should the bench be performed as an accessory?

Since the press holds many similarities to the clean and snatch, would you say that in order to perfect technique that the press also has to be trained at relatively heavy loads?
That trying to practice bar path at 70% loads will have little carry over to bar path at 90%?
