I just wanted to throw this out here as I'm conflicted and wondered what other people thought.
There is a page on Facebook/Instagram called "You Look Like a Man" that is dedicated to highlighting the shitty comments that some men make on pictures of women lifters/gym goers. Everything from patronising advice to crude comments on their anatomy. I think this is a Good Thing that they are called out on it.
However, there was a recent episode where a guy made some very vulgar comments on some women online, and the admin of YLLAM contacted his employer and it looks like he will lose his job over it. He also has two young daughters.
My thoughts, in no particular order:
- He shouldn't have made those comments
- Everybody makes stupid comments in their social life that they wouldn't want their employer to know about
- His daughters could suffer now, because of him being reported
- I can understand women being sick of this shit
- Free speech doesn't just cover polite speech
- Speech can have consequences
Just genuinely interested to here other people's (and particularly women lifters') opinions.
