It can still drive nails into things or break things. That's why so many people carry knives. You probably will never need to fight someone with a knife, but it is so convenient to have around in daily life.

My son inlaw is an assistant DA. I think you are giving the average thief entirely too much credit for intelligence. Agreed there are a few professionals but the usual home thief just realized he's out of meth so he steals your crappy power drill and pawns it for $10. If he has a partner they also take the circular saw and take a photo of themselves holding the loot on their burner phone.
