    No bullshit but I defintely engage my calf muscles strongly on a deadlift. I think a strong calf isometric contraction counterbalances a strong quad-hamstring contraction. If the calfs cant engage, the knee joint is that much more unstable during a heavy pull.

    Not at weights over 495.
