Question Squat-Stance Deadlift, an alternative to Back Squat?

    Coach Rip,
This question is about the Squat-Stance Deadlift (SSDL). Here two videos showing the lift:
    Squat Stance Deadlifts - YouTube
How to do the Squat-Stance Deadlift - YouTube

I envision doing the SSDL like this:
    With Starting-Strength Squat Foot-Stance.
    With mid-foot under bar.
Bending knees and lowering hips till pants crease is below top of patella
With back at around 45 degree to floor in the bottom position.
With knees to the sides when in bottom position.

Some of us (just me?) do not like carrying the bar on our backs when squatting, so the SSDL seems like an acceptable variation/alternative to the Back Squat that allows bending over like Back Squat (so we could potentially program SSDL instead of Back Squat and in addition to the regular Deadlift).

What flaw/s did you find (and I missed) in the SSDL that caused you to not mention it in SSBBT3-3rd-revision as a valid Squat alternative/variation?

Thank you for your time and thoughts.

What about the Range of Motion? This is mentioned in the blue book. If you don't want to squat, just don't squat, but don't try to reinvent the program.

I think at least one of the two videos says to do the SSDL with "squat stance, and not sumo deadlift stance".

Allow me one more question on this, so I solidify what I am learning in SSBBT3.
In page 99 of the 3rd revision you say that the deadlift "...can be used as a leg exercise...".

Question: The deadlift variation closest to the Low Back Squat in this Squat-Hinge Continuum (see linked image) is the best deadlift variation when deadlifting "as leg exercise", correct? Thank you.

    Unhelpful answer.

This objection to SSDL is helpful. Thank you.

The bottom and the top positions in the Squat-Stance (no Sumo Stance) Deadlift are the same as in the SSBBT3 Squat. Doesn't that mean the the ranges of motion of the Squat-Stance Deadlift and the SSBBT3 Squat are the same?

I'm obviously unable to explain myself. I'll let someone else try.

Neither of the videos showed a DL starting from a below parallel position, but you assumed that for arguments sake. It seems like a terrible and potentially impossible position from which to start a pull.

    1. Calling the lockout a “snap”, is more than a minor vocabulary substitution.
    2. The claim that pointing the toes out will push the hips forward is novel. Why not point toes inwards for maximum ass-backwards?
    3. How does he assess the performance of his “tweaks” over the years? Aesthetics?

I had not realized neither of the videos show below parallel. This other video shows only a front view so depth is difficult to judge, but seems to go deeper than the other two. Sumo Deadlift: Squat Stance Supplement

Page 99 in the 3rd revision of SSBBT3 says that the deadlift "...can be used as a leg exercise...". Do you think in that statement Rip is referring to using as leg exercise the regular DL or a wider stance DL variation? (don't tell me to ask Rip, I already did )
