After watching Stan talk about potassium I realized that I probably don’t get anywhere near the RDA.

My typical diet looks like this on an average day:

Meal 1: 2 slices eziekiel bread & natural peanutbutter (ground from the hopper) and 1/2 cup greek yogurt with granola

Meal 2: whey protein shake 25g

Meal 3: ground beef & rice + raw veggies&hummus (carrots & broccoli mostly)

Meal 4: ground beef & rice again

Meal 5: casein pudding 25g with 1/2 cup greek yogurt

Im probably consuming a little over a lb of beef per day, which would be my main source of potassium, but I feel like I’m probably still a fee thousand mgs below the RDA.

Any suggestions on an easy way to get more potassium? I was thinking that adding a bit of fruit and switching the rice for potatos

Back when I worked at UPS in the sort facility, I used to get a cheap electrolyte powder to mix in my water. It had potassium, magnesium and sodium (although I was just looking on Amazon to try to remember the brand and they may not sell it any more). At the time I was on a medication that made me sweat profusely so it became pretty critical. I found that I couldn't get enough potassium from food alone to keep up. There seem to be a lot of options out there.

Spinach, oranges and potatoes mate. Grab an orange with your breakfast, through a couple of handfuls of spinach into your shake (it'll make it green but you'll hardly taste it) and add some potatoes to meals 2 and 3 and you'll be set.

I use the low salt alternative, it's pretty much pure potassium salt.

How did you arrive at the conclusion that you need 4000 mg from a single food source?

I didn’t, coach. Just pointing out the fact that one banana is less than a 10th of the RDA.

Valid. It’s not very difficult to obtain in sufficient quantities if you eat plenty of fruits, vegetables, dairy, nuts, meat, and legumes.
