    This will depend on palate. I have eaten it for over a decade with no complaints. Had a burger today and was pretty good. That said, I prefer Trader Joe's better than other brands of it and notice a difference in taste.

    Agreed. I should have said it turns out differently, not necessarily worse. Recipes may or may not need adjustment to suit tastes.

    I've only ever done it the traditional (Peruvian) way. Skewers over high/medium high heat. I once accidentally let the charcoal die down so it was a longer cook and it could be coincidence but that batch was more tender.

    Besides the lean animal meats like everyone else is suggesting, I'd suggest low-fat greek yogurt. Cheap, high protein, low/no fat, and if the sour flavor isn't working for you you can drizzle some honey in there to sweeten it as needed.
