    Hello, Robert

I’m 40 years old, 5’11 230lbs. Started the SS program back in January. Starting weight was 210, by July I was 245. In late July I got pneumonia, and then food poisoning immediately after. In a two week span I lost 15lbs, and didn’t get back to lifting for roughly a month. Started my NLP again about 3 weeks ago, keeping my lifts fairly conservative to build back to where I was before. Since then I’ve noticed that I have no appetite in comparison to my previous NLP. I work for the post office and walk roughly 12 miles a day, 6 days a week. I’m trying very hard to make sure that I’m eating/sleeping properly, but I continue to see a negative difference in my appetite and subsequently my lifts. Any help would be appreciated, thank you.

It sounds like you may not be fully recovered from all the bullshit that hit you in July. That level of activity plus training should have you ravenous. How heavy is the weight now in relation to where you left off? Have you been trying to drink some of your calories?

July vs Current: squat 295/260, bench 205/175, press 135/115, deadlift 395/360. The only way I really drink any calories is with milk/whey shake.
I really haven’t had much of an appetite since I started lifting heavy. In the past I did more of a hybrid style between heavy barbell training and high reps with machines, and then I was ravenous, but not so much since starting SS.

Just means the weights aren't heavy enough, which they aren't right now compared to before and sounds like you didn't finish your LP before. If you legitimately lift heavy you should be ravenous.

Before I got sick I’d leave the gym shaking, and the last two reps of the third set being hard enough to make me question things. Guess I’ll just keep pushing forward and see how it goes.
    Thanks for your time.

Let me tell you something. All of my deadlifts feel like max efforts after 315. I've pulled 415 x 10 and 405 x 8. I felt that way on almost every rep and continued to do the next one. Feeling difficult and being difficult are two entirely different things. Watch John Petrizzo grind out several reps if you don't believe me.

Well stated, sir - I've stolen that on my running list of good principles and pithy sayings.

Has it been very hot on the days you are working for the USPS? Hot days can present a challenge. Despite a lot of activity, if it’s really hot, my appetite is depressed and feeling full feels gross. On days like that, I need to start early, getting in some calories first thing, and small meals/snacks all day right up to bedtime. Liquid calories help.

Yeah, it had been quite hot lots of days. I’ve done Robert said and just kept grinding out the reps, and I’ve been trying my damndest to get as many calories as I can per day, but I still don’t have an appetite. I’ve started to feel very run down and beat up, almost sick at times. I don’t really know where to go from here.
