I think that the gradual addition of calories per week is a good idea, but I have questions on why we were at 800 Cal a day for 6 months? How tall are you?
Hey Jordan,
Just wondering if you've had any experience working with clients that have been eating at a deficit for an extended period of time, and then used a reverse diet for them?
For example:
28 yr old female
140lb
~25% bf
Has been eating 800kcal a day for the past 6 months - has started strength training and wants to hit 20%bf.
My thoughts are to increase calories gradually each week, up to about the 1500 mark and try to maintain there for a while. As well as try to shift the relationship with food, but that's probably another issue.
Any insight would be appreciated!

800 cals??? DAMN.
My doctor once put me on a 1000 calorie diet as a 23 year old male at 205 pounds. 5'10". I now view this as straight up malpractice.
Sorry, I should clarify.
This is NOT me. I am 6'6 and 240lb and eat more than 800cal for breakfast lol.
This is a female client of mine. I'm actually fairly confident that the calories are accurate - as all she eats are meals ordered online.
Is she 2 foot tall?
How so? Not sure about the states, but here the bigger companies are pretty accurate in terms of weight, calories and macros.
Regardless, I think we can all agree it's not ideal, I was more asking if you had any recommendations on rate of increase in cals, at what point to maintain cals etc.
Thanks
