Eric's Log: Starting Strengthlifting
I've done barbell strength training on and off over the past few years but have never really sustained it. I've decided to sign up for the WFAC Strengthlifting Classic in November to keep myself focused and motivated to train hard and consistently. It'll be my first ever barbell meet, and the first time I've competed athletically since high school (I'm 32).
I previously did an LP and put up some okay-ish numbers about 1.5 years ago. I stopped after herniating a lumbar disc and then lost interest and drive in training. Fortunately my barbell has been patiently waiting in my garage, and with COVID giving me a little more free time I started training again around Memorial Day this year.
Last night's workout:
Squat 245x5x3
Press 140x5x3
Power Clean 160x3x5
My goals for the meet are a mid 300s squat, a 185ish press, and a 405 deadlift. I think these are achievable "1RMs" in the next 12 weeks. Plan is to SSNLP my way there as much as possible.
I should note that I failed a 250 lb squat attempt about a 1.5 weeks ago because I had some seriously distracting hip tendonitis. I've spent the last week tempo squatting (3-1-2) to rehab the injury. Last night was my first time regular squatting and felt pretty good.
