My son says he read of some studies that say casein promotes more rapid muscle growth than whey protein. Also it is absorbed more slowly so it's advantageous to consume at bedtime. Anyone have opinions or experience with casein versus whey protein?

I don't know that it promotes more rapid muscle growth but it is a sustained release so better for replacing meals.

Casein is more anti-catabolic than whey, and basically every other protein source

Not necessarily. It is just digested slower.

Casein is a gigantic messy pain to mix. The small benefits are not worth it in my opinion. The digestion time of egg protein is somewhere between whey and casein, and the stuff mixes normally.
