So I didn't think I would be able to sign up for the Fall Classic being held here in Phoenix on the 21st due to other commitments. Turns out I can attend and have just signed up, but I haven't been doing anything special programming-wise. Due to layoffs and injuries I recently completed an LP and just got through three weeks of an HLM program. Here's my log that I started last month: Chicago VI, Track 10.

    Stats: 58 y.o male, 5'10", 218 lbs

    Latest lifts:
    Squats: 355x3x3, 345x5x3
    Deadlift: 435x5, 445x1
    Press: 157.5x3x3

Last workout was Sunday, 9/15. What should I be doing between now and Saturday? Ordinarily I would have my medium day on Wednesday. Should I work up to heavy singles for each of the lifts to get some practice, or just keep it light avoid recovery issues and reduce risk of injury? This is just my second meet, my first being the 2016 Fall Classic, so mainly I just want to beat my numbers from then (365, 147.5, 440 @ 194.2 lbs) and not get hurt.

    Thanks!

I usually warm up to openers on Tuesday and call it a week.

I was thinking about my workout planned for today on my drive to work and that's the conclusion I came to as well. Kind of split the difference between the ideas I originally posted. Now I just have to decide on my openers. :-)

    Thanks for the input, Jeff.

OK, so my question is moot now, having just gotten back from my workout. I went 335, 150, 415 all for singles. We'll see how things go on Saturday.

Excellent. I'm hoping to swing by with my son after we finish his soccer game. Hoping I don't miss the whole thing; if I'm lucky I'll make it for 3rd attempts on presses.

    Best of luck to ya!

I foresee a crushing of those previous numbers. Eat, rest and kill it.

Now that's what I call optimism! I don't know if I have that in me mentally right now, let alone physically, given my past back injury history with deadlifts. I hope to get to that milestone in the not too distant future, but to jump from a recent 445 single and 435 triple to 500? I dunno. 485 maybe (which would match my all time PR)?

    Robert’s optimism was warranted.

    Video later. I’m stoked.
