So a gym acquaintance expressed interest in learning to DL last week; I (maybe foolishly, ugh!) sent him a link to the SS 5-step setup.

Today I see him, he says he STARTED with 95# and *slightly* hurt his back last week (I wasn't there). I see him DLing today, but w/65# - basically a bent over looking thing, he's predominantly using his low back.

So I went over to try to help him (I don't want him to hurt himself). He is having trouble keeping the bar mid foot and bending down to grip; can't do chest up even a little (slight Kyphosis - 70yo - I could see getting into that position was pretty difficult).

Is a rack pull a better option if he really wants to pull??

What plates are on the bar? Standard 45cm or smaller?

Thank you. He was using the bumpers. So standard size.

A kyphosis will not keep him from doing a correct deadlift off the floor. Coach him.
