    I have watched your HLM video and appreciate the time you take to provide us all with these resources.

    You mentioned that you can do HLM either by doing the main lifts at light and medium weights or by selecting lighter variation of the lifts. It seems like the popular thing to do is use lift variations.

    Is there a disadvantage to using %'s versus lift variations (outside of boredom)?

    The reason I ask is I think it might be an easier transition for my wife and I to start with %'s and then eventually change to lift variations. But I wouldn't want to do that if that will slow progress by a substantial amount.

    No I just think it's a mindset thing.

    I don't think it's a good idea for intermediate lifters to stay with just Squat, Bench, Deadlift, Press. Too many guys I deal with on a regular basis have been training for years but literally don't know anything other than Big 4 Lifts for Sets of 5. This is a problem. You need a broader education in the weight room. You need to learn how to do other exercises.
