I'm sure as hell not going to buy a vertec, so it's a moot point. Standing broad jump is the measure.I actually think it's more interesting to look at transfer to ballistic movements that aren't in the same plane and don't have nearly identical joint angles.
High variability, so record the best of 3 attempts 2x/week and watch for a trend.Maybe. I've had back-to-back broad jumps differ as much 12". I've tested my SVJ at 26"...waited a little bit, then -re-jumped for 30". I have no idea why.
I'll start after my current HLM 3-week cycle finishes.
Will be switching to a 4-day split with density blocks for volume, will start measuring standing broadjump then as my baseline.
You're right, I hadn't caught that the squat was 1/2. Although the authors didn't state whether the half was top or bottom, which I suspect would yield different results.
And, along with Power Cleans, they were also doing halfsquats, clean high pulls, and clean and jerk.
What I found interesting, not that it has to do with PowerCleans=betterSVJ,
but that they actually measured their top speed in the 10m and 30m sprint (m/s) instead of just their time . . . if I am reading that right. Weird
And also say that the broadjump probably isn't good for this type of test, the way you can lift your knees up and squat in the landing influences the distance traveled. I was good at the broad jump as a youth only because I could land in the tucked position so well.
I think you'll get some inconsistencies there from jump to jump
