    Hi, coach Brent!

I'm just curious of this. Isn't my chin-up volume higher than my power clean's? Let me explain.

    bodyweight: 160 lbs

    power clean: 5 set X 3 reps X 120 lbs = 1800 lbs

    chin-up: 10, 6, 4 (bodyweight) = 20 reps * 160lbs = 3200 lbs

    What do you say?

This is more accurately called tonnage (sets x reps x load). But does it matter?

The heavy and light refers more to the amount of stress generated by the exercise. Generally speaking more weight = more stress but there might be some exceptions to this.

I don't think it matters. If you are reasonably conditioned for doing bodyweight chins, they just aren't very stressful.

IMO we call chinups "light" because they are substitute for heavy pulls on a light day. Lats are rarely a limiting factor in pulls so it will not affect the heavy pull day.

Right and why are they substituted for heavy pulls on a light day? Because they are less stressful.

Do you mind further explaining this point?

Does it solely concern a reduced ROM or is there any extra reason?

Stress can be thought of as a function of a few variables load, sets, and reps you have already investigated. But it is also a function of the ROM as well as the amount of muscle mass used.

So for example a deficit deadlift is not as stressful as a full ROM deadlift because you CAN'T load it as heavy. With that in mind a rack pull is not necessarily as stressful as a full DL because it has a shorter ROM EVEN THOUGH it is heavier.

Not sure what you are asking in regards to your second question but I hope this clears it up. If not happy to elaborate more.

This answers exactly what I asked. Wonderful, thanks.
