Right, I'm just saying the muscles that resist extension are not the same as the ones that maintain it under load. That's why I don't think they would help a pull from the floor.

I've never missed a pull because my back was too extended.

Yes, they are rather the same muscles that you use to brace for Valsava.

<irony>But if you train with belt, you'd never need those... planks</irony>

I'm not sure if I understand what you're saying.

Abs keep your spine from extending, abs you brace when you lift, abs you train in planks.

    If you use belt it:

    1. Takes (part of) abs work for itself.
    2. Helps you train your abs when you lift (according to SS:BBT).

    thus rendering planks unnecessary.

I think we agree on the conclusion based on different justifications.

I'm curious, are you implying that planks would help someone who doesn't use a belt? If so, how?

Yeah, by training exactly the same property of his abs that is to be utilized in lifting, -- voluntary static contraction.

Are you implying voluntary static contraction of the abdominal muscles doesn't happen or is not necessary for a lifter using a belt? What purpose does contraction of the abs serve in the deadlift?

No, I'm not implying this bs.

I bet you either know the answer or can easily figure it yourself.

Okay. I inferred it from the fact that you distinguish the benefit of planks towards belted vs beltless lifters. For which I still don't understand how.

That's an interesting bet, but I'm just trying to understand your position.
