    Default Shoulder and Starr question

First, I was diagnosed with a Labral tear in my right shoulder. The Doc is unsure if it is a complete tear or not, but tests have been set up to determine that. If it is a partial tear, what would you reccomend to do to build it back up?

Second, I read some old articles written by Bill Starr which read like chapters in a book (he should have written more books). Anyway, do you know if Starr still advocates isotonic isometrics? And do you ever use them?

I rehab shoulders with presses. And I'm sure Starr still likes his power rack work. He would recommend it, I assume.

So, I should stay away from bench for a while? And do heavy pulls or squats aggrivate this type of injury?- Sorry if these are dumb questions, the physical tharapist seems to think I should be doing 2lb dumbell raises at a 45 degree angle with my pinkey raised while wearing a skirt.

Do you ever have your intermediate or advanced people do that type of rack work?

Deadlifts should not hurt it at all, but racking the clean and snatch may be a problem. My shoulder tolerated the deadlift 3 weeks post-op, and the snatch at 9 weeks. I still can't clean. The press, bench, and jerk may be sore for your labral tear. You didn't mention the surgery. What is the situation?

And I seldom use isometric rack partials here because they are an advanced exercise and I don't have anybody ready for them.

The Doc was not sure if it required surgery. They sent me to a physical therapist for an evaluation of my ROM, which I just had. I have to go back to the Doc to see if they are going to send me to a orthopedic. This happened on May 4th 09, and the ROM is good now but I still have weakness and pain during heavy presses. Are there any questions I should ask, or should I demand to see the specialist.

On a side note, the physical therapist did not know what a squat was.-I don't mean she didn't know what a correct squat was, I mean she couldn't guess that it involved bending your hips and knees.

    Thanks

    Hi Coach,

Just quick related question, would front squats also aggravate a labral repair? I had it done about 4.5 months ago.

    Thanks

That's an even worse PT than usual, which makes her really bad, the equivalent of an LVN. If your shoulder still hurts after being stable for this long, you probably have a cuff tear and you need an MRI and a orthopedic consult.

I don't see why correct front squats would bother a stable labral repair.
